Sofitel Budapest - great room, OK hotel
by TripAdvisor Member beaver06
We just got back from a 2 night stay in the Sofitel and were reasonably pleased with the hotel.
The room was great, super bed, great view across the river.
The food was only average, and there were problems with the wait staff, who were doing a job, but obviously not enjoying it. We told the restaurant manager, and he agreed with our assessment. The breakfast was ok, but I had to look for the coffee pot to get a refill. Dinner was uneventful.
Desk staff was impersonal, but did their job.
Would we stay there again? Possibly, but only after investigating other hotels.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience

My husband and I stayed in the Sofitel for three nights earlier this month and we had a great time. We loved the hotel, loved the city and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The room had a fabulous view of the river and the Castle area.
The room was lovely, the staff helpful and while we arrived early we only had to wait a short time (about half an hour) before our room was ready for us. The room had everything one needs for a short break, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, safe, minibar/fridge, comfortable chairs etc. Television had about four english language channels. Breakfast was excellent, wide choice of hot and cold food, yoghurts, cereals etc. served buffet style.
The location of the hotel is excellent, making it simple to walk most places. If one were feeling lazy, there is a tram stop directly across the road and the city tour buses also stopped at the side of the hotel.
One word of warning - avoid the taxis outside the hotel for long trips. We got one of those taxis to the airport and we ended up paying twice as much as we had going from the airport to the hotel although there was no extra traffic etc. Ask the Hotel Reception staff to book a local taxi for you instead.
Another small thing to bear in mind if you are susceptible to mosquito bites - make sure you have insect repellent! I came home with about 50 bites having been bitten on my first night there.
All in all, though, we had a lovely time and I look forward to returning some day, to the city and to the Sofitel.

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights in march and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We got a taxi from the airport (avoid all the guys inside the airport and come outside to the taxi rank. We were told how much it would cost before we got in. I think it was 3800huf).
When we got to the hotel it didn't look like much but once inside, were plesently surprised.
The receptionist was a little surly and sort of looked down her nose at us for some unknown reason but when she saw our reservation name she smiled. I had mentioned @ booking it was our anniversary and they gave us a excellent room with a fab view of the chain bridge and there was a bottle of champagne(sparkling wine) waiting for us.
Our room was great. On the seventh floor, Big comfortable bed, average sized bathroom with larger than average bathtub with radio in bathroom, mini bar, pay tv on a 24 hour basis which was expensive but came with internet access(slow).
We had roomservice on 1st night which ,I thought was reasonably priced and very tasty.
The leisure centre was ok howevr there was only 1 threadmill and the pool temperature was a little cold.
The bar was nice and a good place to people watch( my boyfriend calls it my favourite past-time) nice atmosphere. Breakfast was good, the usual buffet thing and apart from the surly receptionist all the staff were extremely helpful and nice and had excellent english.
We booked the hotel taxi to the airport as our flight was really early and was around 5000huf I think
If you are booking this hotel I would advise to spend the little extra for the danube view room. It makes the stay that little bit extra special.
Over all we found this a gem of a hotel very close to all amenities with a tram stop right outside. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance as well as the main shopping district and markets

This was a wonderful hotel in a great location. We had a huge room with sitting area, shower stall and tub. Bed was wonderful, room and hotel extremely clean. This is located next to 4 Seasons and Intercontinental. Staff was great. Highly recommend this hotel
Great Hotel with Perfect Location

Stayed at this property Aug. 17-20 2006 as part of a pre-cruise Danube River Cruise package. Located approx. 30 min. from the airport, this clean, modern hotel is extremely well located. Just accross the street form the river promenade with many restaurants within a short walk, and just 2 blocks from a pedestrian only shopping district. Check-in was quick and efficient and our request for a low floor room was met. Since our room was booked as part of the tour package, I can only comment on the standard rooms. The room was very modern(appeared to be recently updated) with beautiful marble bathroom. Plenty of closet and drawer space, In room safe, ironing board w/ iron, TV with satellite, high speed internet access (fee required). Very comfortable beds. Very Quiet. No streeet noise, even though we were located on the side of the hotel. Bountiful breakfast buffet (expensive at $32.00 USD if not included in room rate-ours thankfully was) . Large beautiful atrium lobby ATM located directly outside hotel. Sightseeing buses pick up at Intercontinental Hotel next door. This was a GREAT start to a wonderful holiday. Definately recommended!!
Expensive for what you get

The building (70's kind pile of concrete and glass) is just an insult to the parliament, the nearby Szecheny Hotel and the beautiful chain bridge. But if you get there and have a river view room, I would state it "just ok" for the price that you are going to pay. The bed is small compared to the room size. Moreover, any rate that a reservation center would have quoted you in your currency (EUR, GBP, CHF, USD) will be converted into HUF using the hotel bid price and reconverted at the offered price by your credit card company. Therefore, the final bill is 20% more than expected (no kidding).
The breakfast is outrageously expensive (23EUR) and if you think of spending a few extra time sipping your last coffee, you will be kindly reminded that breakfast time is over... Grande classe!!!

Is the train station Budapest Keleti P far from Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge
Roosevelt ter 2 , 1051 BUDAPEST, HUNGARY?
How much would a taxi be? Or should we get a shared ride at $24 a person? We don't want to take a bus, we have luggage with us. Thanks for the help.

we arrived at keleti about 7:30 PM after a long trip and took a taxi. we were undoubtedly ripped off but still paid only $30.00 approx for a trip to a hotel at the chain bridge immediately adjacent the sofitel. the shared ride is more expensive.
by the way, when you exit the sofitel and turn right and then right at the first street on the way to the subway at vorosmarty square there is an ATM machine half way up the block on the right and a working telephone booth halfway up on the left. we spent plenty of time at both.

It's a 4-km ride, costs 1300 HUF (4.5 EUR) if you order a taxi on phone. I used the fare calculator of Radio Taxi +36 1 777 7777, but other companies would charge about the same fare too. Don't take those cabs waiting outside or drivers waiting at the train. They would make a good business, you wouldn't.

And order your taxi to Keleti station, Kerepesi ut parking. You'll find that parking lot right in front of you if you exit the station through the exit located next to track number 9. But you can also use the main exit on the front facade and make U-turn to the left, walking around the building.
