I fix a trip for my younger brother there, so i wana plan a sight seeing to the museums also the historical places.
What are the must see and visit, about:

2-3 restaurants?

walking around the capital?

acceptable hotels around the center?

any special recommendation, and what they Must avoid?

Thanks in advance.. welcome all to Greece !

Kalimera Kostas!
I stayed in Benczur Hotel (not bad, not good, as to me – good location near Heroes square and Szechenyi baths and pool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%91s6k_tere http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sz%A9chenyi_thermal_bath ) http://www.hotelbenczur.hu/en
Szechenyi baths was a great discovery for me in Hungary. I really liked some towns not far from Budapest: Godollo ( http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Hungary/Pest_Megye/Godollo-434776/Things_To_Do-Godollo-R-1.html , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G6d6ll%91) Eger (castle and cathedral) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_of_Eger ), Esztergom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esztergom ) and Szentendre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szentendre ).
Have a good trip!
Oleg

Hi Kostas,
Places to visit : Castle Area, St Mathias Church, Fisherman Bastion, National Gallery, National Museum, Heroes Square, Chain Bridge, St Stephen Basilica, Vaci street, Oktogon, Andrassy Street, Margit Island and more ...
Additional attractions : Szecheny Bath or Rudas Bath (both of them are great)
Live music : Old Man's Pub
Restaurants : So many in my list, you need to check my restaurant tips.
As a summary you still need to check and read my tips for details, but 5 days will be enough to see the main attractions and enjoy the food.
I hope my suggestins help.
Murat

Important about swimming pool!
Two years ago the ticket cost was 2800 HUF but if you stayed there less 2 hours you refunded 300 HUF. So keep ticket during your staying there and after exit punch show it to ticket office and they refund money back. The rules seem changed but who knows. And it’s too pleasant to have hot swimming after long difficult tours (open from 6am until 10pm every day).

Travel Tips for Budapest

Beautiful Hungarian girls

by MedioLatino

It's actually not just a Budapest, but a Hungary thing...beautiful girls! :)

Make sure you catch some of their smiles during your stay! :)

(And lets hope some female VT member will write about us, handsome hungarian guys as well! ;)

Church of Our Lady

by azz8206

Its official name is the Church of Our Lady but has been popularly named after King Matthias. The church was originally built in 1015 in a Romanesque style. The current building built in the later part of the 14th century is designed in a Gothic style. It was converted to a mosque once the Ottomans captured Hungary and the frescoes that lined it walls were whitewashed. Which is too bad really because it is a beautiful building. The diamond pattern on the roof is a recent addition. There is an Ecclesiastical Art Museum inside.

The Jézus szíve (Jesus`s heart) church

by 1courage

This little church can be found on the very cute Lőrinc pap square, in the VIII.th district near the Mária street and quite close the National Museum. It was built by the jesuits in 2 and a half years (1888-1890) on József Kauner`s plans-architect of the Regina Coeli church in Újpest-, but it wasn`t ready at all at it`s consacration.

The style of the church is neoromanic and it was entirely refurbished in 2005-2006 when it recieved a night illumination.

Also the other buildings of this square are under renovation.

Hungarian National Flag with a hole

by MedioLatino

The Hungarian National Flag with a hole in the middle originates from the revolution of 1956, when the revolutionists on the 23rd of October tore out the foreign (Soviet) coat of arms, symbolizing the power of the Soviet Union and the communists.

Since then the flag with the hole is symbolizing the freedom of the Hungarian nation.

Up to the Danube bend

by richspence

Make time to catch a bus up to Esztergom on the Danube bend. When I was there there was a fantastic market in town that you could walk through to get to the town centre. The highlight though is the Basilica up on the hill above the town.

Try and visit the small village of Visegrad on the way back, where its definately worth a fairly steep walk up the side of a tree covered hill to an old fort from which you'll get the best view of the River as it snakes throught the coutryside.
