Budapest Thermal Baths

by esavarese

I am going to Budapest this upcoming week with friends and we would like to go to the baths, do you need to reserve spots. Or just show up?

Re: Budapest Thermal Baths

No, you don't have to reserve for ordinary baths (though special events may be ticketed).

You can find out times and info for the different baths here:

http://www.spasbudapest.com/tartalom.php

Click on 'all-year baths' and 'seasonal baths' to get opening times etc for each one.

Thanks, have you been? Do you need to bring your own towels, bathing suit etc...

Re: Budapest Thermal Baths

I have been to Szechenyi, yes. And very pleasant it was too.

You need your own bathing suit, imo, and I took my own towel. I think you may be able to hire the latter and possibly the former (or buy them). But it's much, much easier to take your own.

Expect them to be rather pungent afterwards. The waters are quite sulphurous.

Once again, thank you

You are welcome. Enjoy the baths! :-)

Travel Tips for Budapest

Cheap beer

by barryg23

One Euro a pint :)

I'll have two more please!

Beer is incredibly good value in Budapest and we spent a good deal of the weekend trying out the local brew. One of my fondest memories was drinking beer and eating Langos at a festival in City Park. We had just spent a relaxing few hours in the Szechenyi Baths (also in the park) and afterwards we saw a festival in the park so we went for a quick visit - and ended up spending the evening there.

Budapest has a bit of a Parisian ambiance

by Mique

and creates with that its unique mix....

But these stairs were one of the things that did remind me a bit of Paris. And it gives you also an idea of the steepness of thehill you'll be climbing if you decide to go to the Mathias church. We decended these stairs just below the walls that surround castle hill

The great internals of the Újlaki church-ceiling

by 1courage

Also the 4 not really big, but very nice ceiling frescos are worthy of note.
Even though they are not originals: they were not painted in the period when the church was built, but only in the 1920`s.
Nevertheless, their neaobaroque style is in a perfect harmony with the internals!
Sadly we cannot see any ceiling fresco in the sanctuary. Those, created by Mátyás Schervitz in the 1760`s, haven`t survived the centuries and were never repainted.

Arpad hid

by interrailerz

This is Arpad Bridge -- metro station. The Bridge is about a thousand yards away, so don't be sad when you don't see it! This is a mass transport hub (?) and the "Manhattan of Budapest" you will find here quite tall and new buildings e.g. the Police Palace (yess :D). Metro line 3., tram lines 1, 1A, bus lines 26,32,106,120,132fast,133 and regional buses to Vac, Szentendre, Esztergom...
