Tips are covered!!!
by chagi1
In most restaurants in Debrecen the tips are added to the bill. Usually in the sum of 10%, so before taking out some change, double check your bill is service was added!! Sometimes when paying with credit card the waiters will push you to round up the final tab.. if you want to go ahead.. just know that you may be paying the tip twice.. if not more!!!

The history of Debrecen reaches back to the Stone, Bronze and Copper Ages when Hungarians moved into the Great Plain from the East sometime around the end of the ninth century. Today, Debrecen can be described as an University town. The Calvinist College remains with its fine collection of rare books in theology and early science. Other institutions include Lajos Kossuth University of Arts and Sciences, the University of Agriculture, the Medical School, and the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music all combined into the University of Debrecen. There is also a Teacher Training College and technical schools.
Besides numerous restaurants and shops, Debrecen has abundant recreactional facilities including parks, theaters, movies, sport fields. In the Nagyerdô (Great Forest) district adjacent to Kossuth University there is the University arboretum, an indoor swimming pool, thermal baths, Olympic size out-door swimming pools, several sport fields, an amusement park and a zoo. Debrecen, known as the ,,Gate of East", is the second biggest town in Hungary. It has a nearly 700-year-old history.

"The Great Calvinist church and the Main square"
Debrecen is the second biggest and currently the most prosperous city in Hungary. For short periods she was also our Capitol. Situated in the eastern part of the Country, on the Great Plain, thos city has wide flat streets, in this city you can notice that even a relatively big city can be spacious.
On the main square (Kossuth square) you find the Great Protestant church, the centre of the hungarian Calvinism, built in classical style.
The square itself is one of the widest in tha Country and it has completely renovated and trasformed at the beginning of the 2000`s.
"The Piac utca (Market street)"
If you take a look on the other direction from the square, you see a huge and wide street, the Market street wich goes directly to the Railway Station. Here goes the tram with wich you can go through the city.
This square and this street are the very hart of the city. You find here the most important buildings, like the City hall, the Arany Bika hotel and another lovely Calvinist church. But Debrecen is also famous for it`s thermal water and SPA, as well as for the so called Big Forest (Nagyerdő), wich is nowdays out and away a huge park, maybe the most amazing in Hungary.
"Saint Anna church"
Although the city is rightly called a protestant centre, one of the biggest and nicest baroques churches of the Country can be found here, on the Szent anna street, the homonimuos Saint Anne`s church.
