Any information on traveling to Gyor via ferry from Budapest?

There is no passanger port at Gyor, so stick to taking a train.

Thanks! Do you have any advice on driving a rental car from Budapest to Gyor?

Nothing special. Take motorway M1, you'll need a 4-day motorway vignette available at most petrol stations. Expect heavy congestion in the following few weeks due to road reconstruction works in the Budaors-Torokbalint area. Otherwise it's a quick drive, takes 60-90 minutes, depending on how you drive. (The distance is some 120-130 kilometers, the speed limit is 130 kph.)
Note that there is limited pay-parking available on the streets of Gyor. It's possibly a good idea to park your car at the edge of the city center and walk (or take a bus, schedules and route map at www.kisalfoldvolan.hu > Helyi kozlekedes > Menetrend)

This is getting so complicated for me. What is a 4-day motorway vignette??
Thanks!

It's not complicated, although I'll go into details here, so that you'd have nothing to worry about:
You have to pay a motorway toll for using most motorways in Hungary (except for the Budapest metropolitan area, some bypass sections and certain bridges). This payment can be made in several ways (but not at toll gates - there are no toll gates), the easiest for you is to buy a motorway vignette.
Regarding their validity, there are 4-day, weekly, monthly and yearly stickers available.
You may buy one at most petrol stations, generally spoken everywhere on your way out from Budapest. However, you must get it before you leave the toll free section (at the junction of motorways M1 and M0, I suppose junction 20 or something - junctions are numbered according to their distance in kilometers from 0 Milestone, Chain Bridge, Budapest). The beginning of compulsory toll payment is denoted by large symbols (white squares with text: "UTDIJ / TOLL").
Upon purchasing your sticker, you must tell your vehicle registration number to the salesperson, then check it (!) on the receipt before paying. After that, you must stick the vignette onto the windshield (from the inside, of course), preferably to the left lower corner. Later on, this sticker can be removed quite easily. Please do not throw away anything: nor the back part of the sticker, nor the receipt. You might need them upon control.
Controls are made either automatically by cameras or by control personnel at parking lots and exits. The latter might ask for the receipt and the control coupon (that is, the back part of the sticker).
Travel Tips for Gyor
Water Park
by yooperprof
One of the big attractions in Gyor for the locals is a full-scale Water Park on the west side of the Raba river. On the warm summer day I was in Gyor, I saw hundreds of people swimming in large pools, lying out on the grass, playing beach volleyball or gliding down the water slides. I didn't have my swmsuit with me, otherwise I would have been tempted to join the throngs.
Local History Museum
by yooperprof
An interesting assortment of locally produced artworks, historical artefacts, period furniture and clothing, and treasures from various archeological digs in the area around Gyor. Unfortunately, virtually all of the museum's labels were only in Magyar, but I enjoyed the museum nonetheless. It was a bit like going through your great-aunt's attic - you never knew what you were going to find in the next room. The museum is located in one of the grandest old palaces of the city, and is worth a visit for the architecture alone.
