Staying in Gyor
by Natalya2006
I’ll be in Gyor 12-14 July and we will stay in Fortunatus (Kando Kalman 15b). Who knows is this location far from the center of the city? Is there public transport from Fortunatus to the center? Is it possible to see tourist attractions in Gyor by walk? What do you recommend to see in Gyor? I’m interested in relax and sightseeing.
Is it possible to rent a car in Gyor (with low price) and turn it in Budapest? And who knows about a coach or a train to Budapest – how much time does it take?
Thank you for answers, regards, Natalya

This location is a good 20-30 minute walk or a 5-minute bus ride from the center of the city (that is the area where the City Hall and the railway and bus stations are located). The buses you can take are 15, 31, 31A, 31AK. No. 15 makes a huge loop in the industrial area of Gyor and runs along Kando street inbound only. The terminal stop is Revai Miklos utca local bus station in the middle of the city. I think you'll find public transportation easy to use, the network there is quite extensive and buses operate frequently in central parts of the city (but not at the outskirts, actually).
Gyor is a rather small city and very compact from the tourist's point of view. It's easy to manage on foot. In Gyor I recommend to check out the city center - mainly baroque buildings, very nice and pleasant place to walk around. Also try the bath at Furdo ter. Maps:

(Click anywhere to get the list of bus routes calling at the nearest stop. They will be drawn onto the map. For a definite route, click on the route number in the box and click Mutat-Show. To delete, click Urit-Delete. Click on the house icon to get a list of important buildings.)
It's definitely possible to rent a car in Gyor, just enter sg like "rent-a-car Gyor" in Google. It's also possible to return it in Budapest.
Gyor is well connected by trains to Budapest (over 30 trains per day of various type - everything from local to InterCity). Journey times vary between 1h25m and 2h30m. Tickets cost 1300-1800 HUF. There are some 15 coaches per day as well, they are not as comfortable as trains and travel for 1h50m-2h15m. Ticket costs approx. 1500 HUF.
