Red Bus Hostel 1: Clean, Quiet, Safe Hostel

by kgduke

The Red Bus Hostel is in a great location - really close to three metro stops, a short was from the river, and very close to the interesting Jewish Quarter.

I stayed in a 4 person dorm and really enjoyed it. Each person gets a lockable locker. A continental breakfast is served family-style in the kitchen until 9:30am and includes bread/jam/butter, cereal/milk, coffee, tea, etc.

This place is ultra clean and pretty quiet. Very safe as you need a key or code to enter the building and then another key to get into the hostel proper and another key for your room.

Cheap internet in reception. Helpful staff. Hot showers. 24-hour check-in and staffed reception desk.

Lacks a decent common room, but everything else was great.

Four Seasons Gresham Palace: Best Hotel in all of Budapest

by kmbob

The Four Seasons are always hotels known for service, but the Gresham Palace might be one of the best of all the Four Seasons when it comes to it. Rooms are larger than the typical European standard, well equipped, and very well furnished. There is an exquisite bar located on the first floor, which itself is one of the most ornate and beautiful ever put into a hotel. Staff is always very happy to please and very polite, nearly all of them speak English. Highly reccomended to anyone thinking of travelling to Budapest.

The hotel has spectacular views of the Danube and the Chain Bridge from a number of rooms. Beyond that, the location is very centralized, with a walk of only one to two blocks to St. Stephen's basillica and only around 15 minutes to the opposite side of the Danube and the Castle district. Without a doubt this is the best hotel in Budapest for anyone who is willing to spend the money.

Vandor fogado inn: Inn in West Hungary - Szentgotthard

by madar

It is a nice small inn, in western Hungary, Szentgotthard city with like 5 rooms in the rooftop of the building, with a nice restaurant downstairs.
You can find this place in the internet and reserve a room through phone. you can also find their menu in the internet. We were traveling nearby and stayed for one night only, but we had a nice time here, good, friendly atmosphere and delicious food. although the train station was about 50 meters away, it was a quiet place.

Art Otel: Hotel by the Danube

by Chile03

This hotel is in a fanastic situation, just by the Danube in a central location. It is minutes from the Chain Bridge and the Gelert Hill. The hotel itself was modern, really clean and friendly. We would definitely stay there again.

It's a clean modern hotel decorated with vast amounts of artwork. But to get the most from it - ask for a Danube view room rather than a view of the internal courtyard. It's slightly more noisy, but you get a balcony too. We stayed during the St Stephen's National Festival with the craft fair at the Palace. As well as this there was the Red Bull Air Race up and down the Danube - in front of the hotel!

BudArpads.com: Budapests Best

by falcus

I have just returned from an Eastern European trip with a friend. We stayed in Slovenia, Romania, Prague, Vienna and finaly Budapest. Having stayed in various Youth Hostels, we arrived in Budapest by boat , tired with no-where to stay. Arriving at the first internet cafe, we searched for accommodation in Budapest and came across Budarpads.com. After one phone call, a charming Hungarian gentleman named Attila, collected us from the internet cafe and took us to our apartment. The building was very run down but being tired and needing to sleep we accepted this as part of the course and followed Attila into the lift. On the 3rd floor we were shown into the most amazing apartment you could ever imagine. The price was no more than we had paid for the Youth Hostels and it was absolutely beautiful.

High Ceilings, large rooms (2 bedrooms and a living room), tall windows, a kitchen to die for, but best of all a large jacuzzi bath. I thought we had arrived in heaven. A quick trip to the Supermarket next door to buy the local wine, bread and cheese and an hour in the jucuzzi, left us feeling fantastic. The evening was spent spread out on the large sofa's sipping wine and a comfortable night in crisp clean sheets.
The service was unbeatable and Attila was an absolute star.
The price was no more than we had paid for the dorm type Youth Hostels we had stayed in previously.
If staying in Budapest, I highly recommend that you give these guys a try.

The Diana Hotel: A Charming Small Hotel in Pecs

by Paul2001

I had a little problem when I arrived in Pecs. I did not check ahead before I left Budapest and upon my arrival I discovered that there was a medical convention in town AND a movie festival (on Hungarian cinema). Hence I discovered that many of the hotels were booked up. After staggering through town looking for a place to stay I found the Diana Hotel. This turned out to be a surprisingly happy option. Unfortunately the only room that they had available was one with three beds but they offered it to me for a reduced price. The staff here was very friendly. Furthermore the decor was lovely and the place had a homey way about. It was more a pension then a hotel

The hotel has a breakfast room and a bar although I did not notice the latter.

Backpacker's Guesthouse: Best hostel I have ever stayed in!

by nbeard

This place is amazing! So amazing, in fact, that as I approached Budapest from Dresden, I started hearing about it from different people I would meet. The atmosphere is very laid-back; it's not a party hostel, but they sell beer and wine in the entertainment room and show movies from their vast DVD collection and such, so it is still very social. The staff are the owners and they are all young people that like to travel as much as their guests. Their photo albums are in the TV room for everyone to browse through. The staff is super helpful, and even the gruff guy warms up after a while. They organize all kinds of outdoor sporting activites, too. They play great music throughout the place all day. There is a shared kitchen and dorm or private rooms. The decoration is bohemian, with a sitting area outside that is very comfy. It is right next to the tram and easy to get to the center. There is also a grocery store (very cheap!) within waking distance. They also offer a laundry and internet service. But what really makes it great is the atmosphere! I think I remember it being about 9 euro a night each for a private room. I was there in October of 2002. All you have to do is do an internet search for this place to see how great everyone thinks it is.

General tip about accomodation in Hungarry: Places to stay in Hungarry

by Tobias_Plieninger

In Hungarry there are few top end "luxus" hotels.
In the mid and in lower categories there is a big choice.

In summertime camping is very popular in Hungarry.
Near the lakes there are also lots of appartments to rent.

In Budapest there are also a lot of homestays possible.

If you want a good standard for a low price I can recommend Etap

Ibis has more comfort. # http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/reservez/fr_top.jsp?ecran=rech_par_carte #

Etap hotels have the same standard everywhere in the world.

You know what you get a bed to sleep in a clean room for low price.

They have a bed for two persons down and one person can sleep up.
There is a small TV in each room with a few programms.

The toilet and bath is on the room. After using it is cleaned with much chemistry.

The breakfast is served in the morning for an additional payment.
It is good if you have not much time. But don't expect to much.

Tip: You can use the rooms with three persons. There is not much staff around. They don't registrate which person sleep in which room. If one person waits outside while the others check in it is absolutely no problem to stay with three persons.
