Green Gates Guest House: Family Holidays in Hungary

Great place for a family holiday. They picked us up from the airport in a minibus, so there was plenty of space for all of us. The drive was only 90 minutes to the guest house which went quickly.

We arrived at the guest house and we were immediately taken by the beautiful countryside. You could see the Salgo castle from the big garden that had a play area for the children and a big heated pool that we all loved.

The family suite we took had 2 bedrooms and a very specious sitting room with a romantic fireplace which was already prepared for us, so I only had to light it with a match. We had great views from our balcony onto the castle and the garden. The whole guest house was renovated in 2008 so the rooms and all amenities are modern and clean. We had a flat screen TV and DVD player in our room and free wireless internet access which was very useful when we wanted to call our friends on Skype.

There is a superb wellness area downstairs that we could book for our own use, i.e. nobody else disturbed us which was really relaxing. My wife and I booked an hour massage each which was fantastic.

The local food and wine is just great. The day started with a big breakfast with home made bread, rolls and jam and lots of other tasty specialities. There is a big coffee machine where you can make your own cappuccino, late or espresso. Dinner took place in a beautiful room with antique furniture and candlelight. The three courses were all local specialities which we all loved (even the kids). My wife and I got a glass of red wine and the children fruit juice for no extra charge.

There are lots of activities we did during our 1 week stay. There is a tennis court nearby and the kids could try out riding, which they loved. Also we did some big hikes around the castle and the guest house offered bikes to rent. Of course the big pool in the garden was one of our favourite during the hot summer days.

Our hosts were very friendly and we were sad to leave at the end of the week. We hope we can come back soon again…I see on their web page that they have another great offer for this summer: 2 adults and 2 kids for 7 nights in the family suite with half board, 2 hour wellness and 2x1 hour massage and airport transfer for only £1280 – great!!! http://www.guesthousehungary.com
