The most famous, but not the best hotel in Pécs
I used to work in the hospitality industry, so this is my professional opinion, but I did have friends staying in this hotel.
The three star, 100 room hotel is located on the main pedestrian street, Király utca of downtown Pécs, in an impressive art deco building. It is worth walking in, looking around in the richly decorated lobby and, if possible, in the elegant ball room on the first floor, where Béla Bartók once performed. But, that is all about it. Great location, great architecture, not so great rooms.
Most of the rooms are small, you feel you cannot breath, and, as there is no air-conditioning, they can get really hot in the summer. The food is mediocre. Parking is expensive. The room price is high compared to the value. If you really want to stay here, take a suite, they are much more comfortable, and are equipped with airconditioner.
If you insist on staying with the Danubius Hotel chain, then their other hotel, Hotel Patria is a better bet. That does not have such a great location, but it is still in downtown, only ten minutes easy walk from Palatinus accross Széchenyi tér and on a very nice street (Ferencesek utcája). It is in a not too pretty modern building. A completely different atmosphere, but much more comfortable rooms. The food is a bit better, too, and parking is much easier and cheaper. (Maybe included in the room price?)
If you insist on the good location of Palatinus, I recommend Aranyhajó, a small private hotel in an old building right next to it. Bigger rooms, attentive staff, lower prices.
Unique Quality: Palatinus is located in a richly decorated art deco building. The atmosphere of the lobby and the ballroom is great.

Right in downtown
We did not stay at Palatinus Hotel, but met an elderly, american couple on the train and they were heading to this hotel. We walked by this place many times and it is spectacular, espcially at night. Even the locals praise it. Not too expensive and the staff speaks German and English too.

Art nouveau hotel
We stayed there for two days. The hotel was very good, the room was not so big but clean, the service of hotel was very good ,it has underground garage, and it is in the heart of the town.

Art-deco building
The hotel is situated in the historic inner-city, in the walking street directly opposite the Szechenyi square.
Unique Quality: Restaurant with international and Hungarian cuisine, Gosser Brasserie.
The elegant banquet hall, where Bela Bartok once performed, was restored to its former splendor. This grand art-deco building offers all modern comforts and facilities.

Yesteryear look
The interior look of the hotel Palatinus, with marble and wood, show it classical yesteryear look.
Unique Quality: Occasionaly, there was a weding celebration and I was lucky to take this picture of bride.

Yesteryear type
As far as I am concerned it is the most beautiful hotel of Pecs.
The hotel is very well located, right in the heart of the city and in the walking distance from the all major attractions of the town.

Unique Quality: It is a Jugenstil era hotel -- beautiful stenciling in the lobby and in the large restaurant where we had breakfast.
