Siofok -- South shore of Lake Balaton
"Modern Hungary"
We crossed Lake Balaton on the ferry to Siofok, on a stormy day. The ride was a bit rough. Initial impressions were that it was a place to shop, as there were many shops near the ferry terminal. Maybe it was the weather that contributed to my mood, but I didn't find the town all that charming.
"The Water Tower"
Two things did catch my eye in Siofok, one was this water tower, which is quite handsome. Again it is fairly modern looking, but not the ugly utilitarian towers that dot the United States.
"Veterans Memorial"
The other interesting thing was this memorial to the veterans of WWI. It was interesting because instead of glorifying the stuggle, it features a vulture, who picks the meat off the bones of the dead. A very fitting statement about the absurdity of wars.
