BALATON LAKE
Balaton Lake is the largest lake in Europe. Its surface has 592 square Km, with 72 km length and width varying from 4 to 14 km. Its deepest point has 11 meters and the average deepness is 3,2 meters. Somebody had told me that the name means "Muddy Lake", but I´m not sure...
Siofok is a beautiful city with 25.000 inhabitants located on the south eastern shore of Balaton Lake, 110 km from Budapest. It´s considered the youth capital of the lake, famous for wild youth holidays, parties all day and night and beautiful people sunbathing on its beaches. Sounds nice, doesn´t it?
We arrived in Siofok, coming from Budapest, on a Saturday afternoon (June 4th 2005). The weather was good, the sun was shining and there were a few people lying quietly on the beaches. Great atmosphere!!! Suddenly, as we finished our late lunch, a terrible windstorm began and all our joy was taken away from us!!! The next day was windy, cloudy and rather cold...
No wild parties. No beaches. No sun. What a shame...
And, on Monday, we left back to Budapest.
It´s probably a great place to go during the summer though. The scenery is very beautiful, the town is very pleasant, restaurants are good etc.
I wish I can spend a summer holiday here someday...
