Folklore Dancing in Sarvar
"Arriving in Sarvar"
Our folkdancegroup "Tanzforum Fensterkitts Bad Saeckingen" (www.tanzforum.org) went to the International Folk Dance Olympics in Hungary, with one of the hosting towns beeing Sarvar.
It was a 1000 km journey from Basel to Sarvar, and we did it within 18 hours.
Arriving there we met our guides, and they showed us our accomodation. We stayed in a schooling home / student complex in the neighbouring town Vep. Thats the reason why I cannot give any usefull info on hotels or similar. We were picked up, and driven to the different locations, where we had performances, and not all of them were in Sarvar itself. But you'll see.
On the picture you'll see one of the tourist pubs, with "normal" tourist prices, close to the center of town. The more central a pub or restaurant gets, the more expensive is the "tourist menu".
I wouldn't call it a tourist trap, because Its the "modus operandi" for all pubs and restaurants around there.
"Folk Festival"
The Festival itself was great.
We got to meet a lot of great folk dancers (english, slovakian, turkish, hungarian) and learnt a lot of new games, songs and dances.
On the picture, you'll see some of our new turkish folk friends, playing music on the stairs to our dormitory in Vep, while some of our folk group are learning new dances.
"Performing Folk Dances"
While being there, we had over a dozen performances
The group performing on the pic are polisch Dancers
