Travel Tips for Veszprem
The County hall
....the County Hall. This enormous and fancy late-eclectical building was constructed at the end of the XIX. century (it was finished in 1886). Here you can find lots of offices, but it can be visited inside only if there are concerts in the evening. This is a real pity, because I`ve heard that the concert hall is fabulously ornated. It`s really hard to take a photo of this building even from outside, because it`s near the park of the city and the trees cover it. The city park nearby is really fabulous, see next tip...-->
Nice neo-gothic building near the park
If you go to the other side of the City park you cannot pass by the very original neo-gothic building of the City Bibliotheque After taking a look at it, if you turn to the right, and walk about 60-70 metres on the Iskola street and you will see a very particular romantic-neo gothic church...(see pic n.IV)-->
The main (Old town) square I
On the main square you can see almost every architectual style that caracterize the last 3 centuries of Hungary: baroque, copf, classical, eclectical and secessionist buildings.
They are mostly owned by a Bank or an insurance company, but you can also find some good restaurants and bars here.
The Fire tower
This medieval tower was originally a watch tower. Fortunately it was only damaged in the wars, and when there was no more danger, in 1811 it was rebuilt in late baroque-copf style to it`s new purpose. I think that watching fire from this tower wasn`t such a bad job after all because the stunning views from up there. The tower has a carillon wich plays a very pleasant melody in every hour )well, I guess that for those who live there it isn`t so pleasant:) ).
