 | Keszthely Reviews | Tips 1 - 9 of 9 | | We arrived in Keszthely on Saturday, in the main season. We wanted to take a room for just one night. And we were close to the beach. So, it was not that easy to find an accommodation. But we were lucky when we asked at Karin Haus. It's a private accommodation of a German/Hungarian family. Camping Castrum is a very nice camping. It´s situated at only 300 meters from the Balaton and at 1 km from the city centre. There are two tenniscourts and a large swimming pool to be used only by the guests at the camping. There is a good shop where you can by all the necessary food you need and all the places are well devided and all have shade.
The best this at this camping is the restaurant. Here you can eat fabulously. Especially the Hungarian food is very good. And everything is very cheap. Leave a Comment

We stayed in the annex that isn't so marvellous as the main club in the picture. It's away from the lakeside in the centre of town and it's an aparthotel sort of place and I can't say that I was all that enthused by it. You can use the facilities of the main buildings and the beaches of the lake are quite close by so you can sunbathe and swim. The centre of the town is quite good with many restaurants and places to eat and drink.

If you are going to Kesthely in Summer then book somewhere in advance as hordes of sun seekers head to this lakeside beach resort. In winter, you'll have no problem. I walked around the town until after a while an old man with a bicycle offered me a room. He took me to a place called Museum Gueshouse which he ran with his wife. It was grand and comfortable. he charged me 7500HUF per night but i guessed he charged a lot more in peak season. We found this smart, newly built pension by complete accident...we walked in, had a shower and unpacked our bags, then the landlady told us the place we were supposed to be in was a few more doors down the road! It was a happy accident, because for under a tenner per person a night, you couldn't really ask for more. The rooms are immaculate and have their own bathrooms and balconies, and for that money you also get a full buffet breakfast. The place is so new that at time of writing, they are still in the process of painting the exterior.
The best thing about the Pension Moritz is the mother and son who run it treated us like old friends who had dropped in for the weekend. They couldn't have been more hospitable, and this really put further shine on an outstandingly good valued stay. This was a great place to stay. A German-Hungarian family run guesthouse with rooms and apartments to rent with breakfast if required. For exact costs see the website below but a double room is around 32 Euros (16 Euros per person), a good breakfast with bread, hams, jam, yoghurt, coffee and fruit juice is 3 Euros extra per person. In the main season as in most of the area, unless you are lucky and there is a space between people checking in and out (which I was!!) a room is not availabe for less than 3 nights.
There is a pool, barbecue area, mosquito netting, swing chairs and sunloungers. The owners are very friendly. Out of season offers include transport to the thermal lake in Heviz and 7 nights for the price of 6. This *** hotel is now part of the Danubius Hotels Group, and was originally built as spa resort and a conference hotel, which it still is. It is not new, but renovated ca. twelve years ago. It has 232 rooms all with a balcony and a nice view in all directions. It has all the modern facilities. I had a very pleasant time there. The service was friendly and straightforward and the atmosphere relaxed. A very nice and clean hotel, 2 minutes away from the central Fo Ter square. Two very sweet receptionist ladies speak English and are always happy to help. They have their own parking garage, which comes in very handy as there is positively no free parking in the town.
The hotel has a restaurant (open terrace + cellar) that really lives up to its name (Bacchus). Lavish dinners (we only had dinners there but every night!) are sophisticated Hungarian fare served with flair and the portions are generous. We enjoyed their superlative house wines and traditional desserts. Especially recommended are wild game dishes, of which they serve quite a few. We tried them all and every time it was a treat. All waiters are multilingual - English, German and I overheard one speaking Spanish - and know their business very well. Pricewise it is slilghtly more expensive than average but _well_ worth it.
