Pal Festetics was the first to found a secondary school in Keszthely in 1772. Its descendant can be found in the building which was constructed in the 19th century. Its neo-gothic tower was raised in front of its frontage in the 1880s.
The building complex comprises the school, a friary and a parish church.

Closer look to the house which is usualy constructed of the wooden elements, while the walls of loam. This is very simple house with one living room, small kitchen where the open fire was and two bedrooms, one for the parents and one for all children.
Festetics Castle - the Library

The library is not only the castle's largest room but it is also its most valuable. Today it is the only aristocratic private library in Hungary in its original state. There are more then 86.000 volumes, 119 manuscripts and 4 of the earliest printed books. Many of the valuable works are only one or two copies in the world.

It was a sunny day in my hometown Vienna and I wanted to leave this city for a short weekend trip to... well. .. to Keszthely at Lake Balaton. If you never heard about that village, you are not the only one. I have to admit, I also didn“t know that place although I visited that famous lake before.
Before I show you the places which we visited I want to tell you some words about Keszthely:
Population: 24.000
Location: at the north-west end of the Balaton, about 200 km southeast of Budapest and about 230 km southeast from Vienna.
