The Castle
by Bjorgvin
Keszthely means castle in English, and indeed there is a castle in town, not one of those sombre military structures so often connected with the word, but a beautiful baroque palace built in 1745. The Festetics Castle was built by the wealthy Festetics family and has over 100 rooms. Now it houses an interesting museum and library. During the tourist season concerts are held almost every day in The Mirror Gallery, and sometimes outside in the garden. - It is quite near the centre. Follow the pedestrian street from the town centre.
