Hotel Fron: Adequate city centre accommodation

by miniman2804

Pretty much as central in Reykjavik as you can get. Warm, comfortable if unexciting, and good soundproofing - although downtown Reykjavik in February is a quiet place!

They were renovating the dining room when we were there - no problem really but they mght have told us.

Hilton Nordia: Clean comfort in Reykjavik

by Tin_Man

The Hilton Nordica is apparently owned by Icelandair and was one of the choices available when we booked our recent Northern Lights City Break holiday. This is a clean, comfortable hotel with friendly staff and a good restaurant and bar, plus a decent tourist office in the lobby staffed by knowledgeable, helpful people.

We had a standard double room on the third floor looking out the back, but as we’re not the kind to spend a lot of time in our hotel rooms we didn’t need a spectacular view and the bed was comfortable and large enough for two and the bathroom was clean and roomy—those two things make all the difference. Add in a mini-fridge, ample closet space and adequate heat and you’ve got a nice room. An added nice touch is the wood flooring—so much cleaner than carpet.

Both the bar and restaurant staff were friendly and courteous; prices were reasonable by London standards but would have surprised us in earlier days.
The hotel is in the east part of town, a bit of a distance from the main shopping area, which would be a negative to some travelers. They have a shuttle which runs downtown on a regular basis, though, and we took advantage of it one night to find dinner, then walked back to the hotel after—it’s about a half hour walk from the main shops to the hotel.

All of our excursions picked us up right at the hotel: Northern Lights, Golden Circle, and the Blue Lagoon outing, as well as a connection to the airport bus—which was sooo much less expensive and no longer than the cab we took from the airport.

Wireless is free in the lobby and second floor meeting rooms and for a fee in the guest rooms. As our room was on the third floor, however, we were able to access the second floor wireless in our room for no charge.

Hotel Anna: Idyllic Iceland Hotel

Our second night in Iceland, so cute. Nestled in one of the small farming communities off the ring road, just below a soaring cliff, surrounded by sheep and horses. Charming decor, delectable food (I recommend the Arctic Char) and a hot tub!

Northern Lights Inn: Northern lights Inn

by Bonkers11

The Northern Lights Inn is indeed in the middle of nowhere. It is very close to The Blue Lagoon which can be reached on foot in twenty minutes. The hotel is however situated in a bowl so there are no clear views acros the barren landscape, mountsins or hills one should say obstruct all views.
It is situated next to a pwer station whcih does give some light polllution and does emit a hissign noise continuoaly and a small generator type noise but this cannot be heard in the rooms.
There is an honesty bar but there isno ice and this does not appear when you ask for it.
The rooms are spacious evn a twin room.
There is plenty of hot water.
The room was not set up as a twin but it was easily done ourselves.
The food was magnificent, wine list rather small but there are soem nice wines on there, we stuck to the australian wines and the sparkling Henkel was rather tasty, a Demi Sec.
The northern ights did appear and they do have a grat viewign observatory but it is not very comfortable. A small balcony looks out over one side of the building but ve careful the door locks you out if you are not creful and they do not keep it clear of ice and snow.

The pick up and drop offs at the airport work very well. and they are alwasy pleased to run you down to the Blue Lagoon.

The food is ok at breakfast, an offering of cheese and hams, different local breads, fruit and vegetables and scrambled egg.

The food at dinner is delicious but the limited menu means dont eat there for more than two nights, try the Blue Lagoon Lava resturant if you can its just as good and a bit different.

The service is soemwhat slow. The soup ran out at dinner andit took them fifteen minutes to top it up knwowing that it was runnign out I would have hoped they would have been more on the ball.

There is a "alarm call" available if you want to see the northern lights after you have gone to bed.

Northern lights viewing although there is light polution

Easy reach of Blue Lagoon

The price below is based on a twin room per night £300 for two people for two nights in cludign breakfast.

Farmhouse Accommodation

by Krumel

For the tour around Iceland's Ring Road we had booked our accommodation as part of a self-drive package with Icelandic Farm Holidays. Many of the places that we stayed in where very different in character, and we enjoyed this variety. Some were working farms, where the farmer's wife would lay an ample table in the kitchen in the morning, others were dedicated guesthouses with buffet-style breakfasts. Some farms also offered cooked dinners.

One negative point to note though is that some of the accommodations we had picked had been substituted for another farm in the same area, and of at least the same category or even higher. We just would have preferred to be informed of these changes upfront, as we only found out about them when we received our voucher booklet in Reykjavik. For example, we had picked a horse farm for a two-night stay, and were rather disappointed to find out that we were not going to be staying on that particular farm, after all.

Our House, Reykjavik

by Krumel

Our House is one of the nicest and friendliest hostels I have stayed in, and the staff went out of their way to be helpful, even before we had arrived, and really made us feel at home when we were there.

The house is spotlessly clean, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need, all the rooms are very different and lovingly decorated, they have a roof terrace and even a sauna in the cellar.

The location is perfect, just around the corner from Hallgrimskirkja, and just a short walk from the main shopping street in the city centre.

This really was a lovely place to come back to in the evening and to hang out at, either in the sun room, the roof terrace or chatting to other travellers in the lounge.

1x6 Guesthouse, Keflavik

by Krumel

This is a great little guesthouse in Keflavik, which is run by an artist and therefore looks very unique, each room lovingly decorated with lots of timber and artworks.

I got a very warm welcome despite my late arrival after midnight, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

I also thought it was a very nice touch that everyone got a pair of slippers with their towels, which can also be used to make your way to the small hotpot pool in the garden, which is fed by natural geothermal water.

Breakfast is self-service from the well-stocked fridge and a very tasty homemade bread.

Frón Hotel: A centrally located hotel in Reykjavik

by MikeBird

If you want to be in the centre of the city with access to the main restaurant area and harbour then you should consider booking a stay in this hotel. It doesn't seem to be one of a chain and, to be honest doesn't look much from the outside, but its position on one of the two main shopping streets; Laugarvegur, makes it a highly attractive place to stay.

The rooms were perfectly well equipped with all of the usual amenities.
I was travelling with my eldest son and we had requested twin beds rather than a double. I suspect for this reason when we returned for a 3 night stay they put us in one of their apartments - which was great. We each had a room a large bathroom, a living area and small kitchenette - all for the same price as a standard twin room. Our first night was in one of the standard bedrooms - see the photo.

I thought the breakfast was a little disappointing but it was sufficient for our needs even though it was very busy between 8 and 9am.

All in all a very practical hotel that suited our needs perfectly. I would go back there again.

Center Hotel Plaza: Great location and value in Reykjavyk

by Elliot2001

Center Hotel Plaza is a nice and cozy hotel in downtown Reykjavyk. The staff is very friendly and I enjoyed the overall experience very much. The breakfast is very good and it serves a variety of foods in buffet style. Rooms are very comfortable with bathrooms of an adequate size, adding to the good value of the hotel. The long days of summer offer no problems to sleep, since there are heavy curtains that can keep the clarity away. I definitely recommend this hotel for those who want a nice and not expensive hotel, but with comfort and practicity.

The greatest quality of Center Hotel Plaza is its location. There are many restaurants and gift shops very near, on strolling distance. The square in front of the hotel has a lot of typical buildings and a great atmosphere. The departure point of many tours, the main commercial street and the Tjornin, a beautiful lake with beautiful typical houses, are also nearby.
Just go outside the main entrance, turn right and you'll find a convenience store where you can buy refreshments and snacks to take along with you in your tours, since many of them doesn't allow you much time to eat properly.
