Hotel Laxnes: in Mosfellsbaer

by smirnofforiginal

Hotel Laxnes is in Mosfellsbaer which is just outside Reykjavik.

The family room was very large and comfortable - more like a suite. The hotel manager, Sean was lovely, friendly and helpful.

The hotel bar was really nice. It was like an English pub but had several different room, each decorated slightly differently comfortable and relaxed. Large pool table in one room, bookshelves full of books... the bar manager was a nice guy and there were a fewlocals in to watch the football!

The family room cost € 130 which included breakfast and I really enjoyed our stay here.
Breakfast, it has to be said, was a bit of a depressing and unsatisfying affair but, I would not let that deter me from staying there.

CenterHotel Thingholt: Design hotel in middle of everything

by nomadig

CenterHotel is a small chain of small Icelanding boutique hotels, all located in Reykjavik. We got an excellent price for CenterHotel Thingholt for our one night stay in Reykjavik.

The hotel is very centrally located -- albeit being in outskirts of the city means only one or two kilometer walk -- and all major attractions and shopping possibilities are in a walking distance.

The focus in the hotel is in modern design, and for me it worked pretty well. Dark floors, white and bright rooms, and good furniture made a good match. The bed was large enough and had excellent linens, and the bathroom was just right with a good shower. The only minus comes from the bathroom tap that was a bit loose, and could be swung around.

The price included also an excellent breakfast with very, very delicious Icelandic dark break -- reminded me of Finnish archipelago bread. Dark, tasty, and not for everyone. There were a lot of other things, too, so do not worry about the dark break.

The service was straightforward, and well in line with other Icelandic service we encountered. Not pushy, but not very "delighted to be helping you" either. For us Finns, it is easy to accept that kind of service, but for Americans it might feel a bit rude.

Hotel Borg: Art Deco Hotel

by clouds111

This hotel was wonderful!! Not cheap by any means and there are cheaper places to stay but I treated my boyfriend to a weekend break here. The room was upgraded to a suite on our arrival and we were served champagne shortly after arrival. The room was huge, wooden floors, large comfy bed and crome features everywhere, recently renovated in an art deco style in keeping with the building itself. Views at the back aren't great but you can open the curtains in the morning lay in bed and watch the sun come up - a rare sight for me. Think I could have slept in the bathroom it was so lovely and the shower head was the size as a dinner plate! Great location on a square and within easy walking distance to all the sights. Great cafe opposite - Cafe Paris

Loved everything about it

Fosshotel Baron: Good Hotel

by Gwyndra

I stayed here for a 3 night period in 2001. It´s a good decent hotel with the basic ecuipment, regular size bathroom and it´s nice and tidy. Definietly recommendable!
I can´t say much about the prices as I stayed there as a part of an arranged tour.

Hotel Bjork: Great 3* Hotel

by Joby1

This is a cosy little hotel only 10 minutes away from the City Centre. The bedrooms are basic but really spacious with brilliant mountain views. The staff are very friendly and chatty and the breakfast is just right! The biggest shopping centre is a 15 minute walk away and the main bus terminal is 10 minutes away which is handy if you have booked any tours!

Excellent mountain views!

Metropolitan Hotel: Metropolitan

by GandalfOnTour

I found the 3 star Metropolitan Hotel to be fairly good value for money. It is superbly located near the old town centre, which makes walking around the city very easy. The room is spacious enough and clean and was more than adequate for someone not looking for the luxury of The Ritz. The breakfast was good and is served from 7-10am. There was plenty of bread/toast, cold meats, cheese and cerial to eat. And to drink there was the usual juice, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The reception staff were fantastic and were more than happy to recommend and book day trips for us as well as give us some ideas on places to eat or drink. I was very impressed with the service that we received. Highly recommended!!

Radisson SAS Saga Hotel Reykjavik: Radisson Saga, Reykjavik

by TheSentinel

The Saga hotel is quite well located, only 10 minutes walk from the centre. It has a nice view from the roof over Reykjavik (see attached picture). Breakfast is good (standard Scandinavian).

A big plus is the free internet (broadband or wireless) in the rooms. Wireless reception is rather weak. but you can get a cable from reception and use the hotel network.

Not so good is the limited choice of TV channels (only 6) although Icelandic TV has films with subtitles.

The price is high, as to be expected for Iceland, but not higher than equivalent **** hotels in Reykjavik.

There is a nice souvenir shop downstairs. Staff are friendly, especially the Filipino cleaners (how did they get to Iceland?).

The lifts are a bit confusing - at the front they use the normal system (0 = ground floor) and at the back they use the American system (1 = ground floor), so you will probably end up making unwanted visits to the basement or 1st floor depending on where you're from.

There's a travel centre downstairs which arranges trips to local attractions (Blue Lagoon, Northern lights etc).

Great views.
