Hotel Laxnes is a quaint little hotel in Mosfellsbær, just outside Reykjavík. It's not a luxury hotel, but for the price, it can't be beat. Staff was friendly and helpful. Regina, a housekeeper, sat and chatted with my wife and I at breakfast. She prepared breakfast in the morning and we were the first people up, so it was enjoyable to chat with a local. The rooms are comfortable and adequate. No phones or hair dryers but you can borrow one from the front desk. It can get very hot in the rooms and there's no way to adjust the temperature so we had to crack the windows to keep the room cool. The shower was quite nice with a removable head with massage. I believe they have Wi-Fi in the rooms, but we didn't bring a laptop. They did have a computer in the lobby that guests can use to check email, flights, etc. Probably the best thing about Laxnes, though, is location. The bus stop to head into Reykjavík is at the end of the hotel parking lot. There are two banks right across the street to exchange currency and there are several restaurants and a grocery store nearby. So pretty much everything you need is conveniently close without the noise and hustle of being in downtown Reykjavík. Also, there is some great walking and hiking right by the hotel. Tungufoss waterfall, Mount Helgafell, and Mount Úlfarsfell can be walked to right from the hotel. The trailhead for Mount Esja is a little further, but bus service can bring you there.
Great location in quaint village of Mosfellsbær. Easy access to hiking, banks, bus service, outdoor pools.
