Good For Couples
Just what we were looking for
The Best Western was the perfect base camp for our 6 night stay in Reykjavik. It is close enough to the center, but not too close. In other words, you can walk for 15 minutes to the bars, but you don't have to hear the noise when they empty out late at night. There is a bus station a couple of blocks away and Harry's Restaurant is right next door (get the lamb chops). Best of all, the staff is, without exception, knowledgeable and friendly. Everyone went out of his or her way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Be sure to meet Thora at the front desk and Christine at the bar. They are superstars!
We were happy with this hotel
Before our trip I had read some not so good reviews, but we didn't have any complaints. Our double was nice and spacious, the bathroom was perfectly ok. The sink was a bit lower than in other hotels, but since none of us are giants, this was no problem.
There were signs explaining that the hot water was very hot - it was! - and that there is a slight smell of sulphur. We had read about this before and knew what to expect.
Breakfast was good and we never had trouble finding a table.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and everybody spoke good English.
There is a bus-stop very close to the hotel, but mostly we walked into the city centre, about 10/15 minutes walk.
Sorry, once again I forgot to take a picture.
Since I had booked a special deal, I'm going to mark the "price per person" as not applicable.
Directions: It seems that this hotel is known in Reykjavik as the Hotel Reykjavik, not as the Best Western. We had to explain the address to someone, and then he knew it as the Hotel Reykjavik.
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and found it to be everything we needed. The room was very spacious with a comfy bed. The bathroom was very nice with a good powerful shower. The breakfast is continental and was always well stocked. The reception area is plain but efficent with nice comfy chairs to sit on whilst you wait for your taxi or tour bus. There are also lots of information booklets and maps that are free for you to take. We found the reception staff to be very helpful when we required information on places to eat and tour information.
All in all a very good hotel that is only a 10-15 minute walk to the main street and bars etc, would highly recommend.
Although a little out of the way, the Hotel Rekjavik is a very spacious hotel in a quiet part of town.
