In the middle of it all
Hotel Skjaldbreid is a great value on Laugavegur, the main shopping street in 101 Reykjavik. Staying in this area of town may be more expensive, but you won't regret the convenience of being able to go back to your room to drop things off, etc. And being near the shops and restaurants is very important to making the most of Reykjavik.
We highly recommend this hotel. It's a great value for the area of town. Aside from the convenience of being right on Laugavegur, the staff at Skjaldbreid is friendly and rooms are clean and comfortable. Our laundry was done (for free!) within a short amount of time, which was great since we were there during an unexpected heat wave that quickly wiped out our summer clothes. Skjaldbreid has a beautiful atrium open for a free continental breakfast every morning, and tea and cocoa are available late into the night. Also not to be overlooked is the convenience of the adjacent Vegamot Bistro, one of the most lively nightspots in town (also great for meals).
