Depends what u want

by TripAdvisor Member RichDC

My partner and I stayed there two nights. If you are used to a bed and breakfast (minus the breakfast part), you will probably like this hotel. If you are used to the Hilton, you may be disappointed.

The rooms really aren't bad. They are spacious and decently furnished, just like the web site pics. And they are reasonably clean and in reasonably good condition ... for a B&B type of place. And it is a great location (though it could be noisy depending on which way you face and if you have the windows open or closed). And the service was fine, no complaints there either.

The part that definitely makes a bad impression about the facilities is everything other than inside the rooms themselves. The place is in sort of a semi-rundown office building with a bookstore on the first floor and some kind of crummy looking cafe on the 2nd floor. They seemed to be about ready to paint the outside, which is a good thing. Hopefully they will clean the graffiti off the front of the building by the door when they do. And spiff up the inside of the building while they are at it so it isn't so dingy and run down looking.

Would I stay there again? Dunno, depends on my budget.

Wow

I stayed here for 2 nights while on a stopover in Iceland in September 2005, and the place is just wonderful. Right in the middle of Reykjavik and within walking distance to all major stores, restaurants, and tour offices. From the outside it looks like a nondescript office building, but once inside the apartments, they are beautiful. I stayed in Apartment 402 which is one of the smaller apartments, and by hotel room standards it is just huge. Large kitchen/dining area and large living room. Full size bed in the bedroom and a bathroom with a nice large bathtub. It is beautifully decorated and the living room is equiped with complete entertainment system. TV, cd player, DVD, VCR, as well as a selection of cd's an movies. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to fix your own meals, including toaster, rangetop, coffee maker, microwave, all cutlery and silverware, pots and pans, glasses and dishes. There's a large dining table in the kitchen that has seats for four but could easily seat six if there were enough chairs. Plenty of dresser and closet space in the bedroom, and the bed was large, soft, and luxurious. Full bathroom with large tub, hair dryer, even candles to light for your soak in the tub. Since restauraunts in Iceland are shockingly expensive, being able to cook most if not all your own meals makes the apartments an excellent value for money. There's a grocery store right down the street. Staff was very helpful and friendly. I would definately stay here again.

Excellent

Contacted above hotel apartment Manager by email and was emailed a list of very helpful facts that certainly helped make our transfer/money exchange, sights, transition much easier. Don't change your mind when you see the outside of the building.....WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THE APARTMENTS........ABSOLUTE GRANDEUR WITH ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT NEED AT HAND. STAY HERE, THE PRICE IS RIGHT AND IT IS THE NICEST PLACE IN REYKJAVIK

Fantastic Apartments

by TripAdvisor Member daverey

Enjoyed a 3 night stay in the Room With a View apartments in November 2004.

My wife booked the apartment via email, and the owner, Arni, was very helpful in arranging everything. She had looked on their website which shows all the different rooms, and had specifically asked for room 511 and when we arrived the room was ready for us - and what a room. Our room was on the top floor, and was absolutely huge and very nicely appointed - a full kitchen area (with Siemens-Porsche toaster & kettle), large living room with leather sofa, dining table, bookshelf and books, TV, satellite, VCR & DVD (complete with a few DVDs to watch), very nice bathroom and good sized double bedroom (complete with views out onto the terrace and across Reykjavik bay and the moutains). There was a large terrace which overlooked the shopping street (fairly quiet though) and use of an outdoro hot-tub if wanted. It is possibly the most luxurious apartment/hotel room I have stayed in, and represented excellent value for money too, espcially given the prices in Iceland as a whole.

Aword of warning though, don't be put off by the outside and entrance to the apartments - the rooms are in the buildings above some shops and the entrance is hard to find and a little dingy looking.

All in all this was an absolutely wonderful place to stay in an incredible country.

Prefect stay in Iceland

by TripAdvisor Member itxrd

If you are looking for a place to stay in Iceland stay here. I'll tell you why:

1) Its bang in the centre of town. Right next to all the bars/clubs but you don't get any noise either
2) The apartments are very nice and clean
3) Its cheaper than getting a hotel
4) Arni (the owner) goes out of his way to help you. One example - We were late for a sightseeing tour (hungover). He drove us to the travel depot, cut off the coach which had just set off, got us on while paying for our tickets - we paid him back later
5)Iceland is expensive - there is a supermarket 200 metres away. Here you can buy your food and cook it yourself.

Wonderful location!

Arni gave me a very warm welcome and was very accommodating. I came early in the city and he organized everything for me: my day trip to the Blue Lagoon, my transfer with the Flybus to Keflavík, and he made sure to transfer my luggage to my room since I was coming back late in the afternoon. He also sent me to a nice little breakfast place close by where I could enjoy some nice coffee and read. Arni is extremely helpful and friendly and this is very important to get such a warm welcome to me. Óli was there in the afternoon to show me to my room. I was supposed to get the appartment 602 but I got an upgrade :-) My room (#603) was nicely decorated with a fully equiped kitchen and design furniture, TV, stereo, candles, incense, CDs and VHS, and the view was incredible! Both of them made my stay a memorable one and I was there only for one night! But I will definitely come back and I advise everyone to consider Room with a View on a trip to Reykjavík!!!

As the name suggests

by TripAdvisor Member stuarhy

Had we arrived in Reykjavik on an overcast day my 1st thought would have been 'Why Room With A View?'. Luckily it was a gorgeous sunny day. We met Arni who showed us to our room. As i walked further into the room my attentions suddenly went from my immediate surroundings to the most amazing view that i've ever seen from any holiday accomodation. My only regret is that i forgot to take a picture.

The room was nice and spacious with a decently equipped kitchenette, a tv and dvd player, a massive sofa, electric reclining bed and that view. We'd paid extra for a jacuzzi bath that was a welcome sight at the end of a long day out and about.

We stayed here for 5 nights and whilst there is enough to see and do in Reykjavik, you must get out of town and visit the countryside. We hired a car for 3 days as this worked out cheaper than the organised coach tours and enables you to spend as little or as long as you like at each place as well as taking numerous detours because "oh look there's another waterfall, let's go and take a look" seemed to be a popular sentence.

If driving abroad worries you, don't be in Iceland. The roads are pretty empty ( we drove 100km along 1 road and saw no-one else) and it's easy to find your way even with a fairly basic road map

A Little Gem - Great value for money!

by TripAdvisor Member travel_addict123

In the country of the £6 pint, this place is a little gem. The beauty of Room with a view is that not only is it centrally located (right on the High street), but the rooms are massive, the views from the hotel are spectacular and its amazing value for money.

Its rooms are clean and well appointed, all with kitchenettes - perfect if your on a budget in Iceland, as a Pizza costs £15+. Our room was the cheapest they do and could have done with a little love and attention but for the money it was perfect, and for £65 a night we got two rooms twice the size of a travel inn room!

Iceland was amazing and the people were really friendly, and Arni the hotel manager, who couldn't have been more helpful.

The only down side of being so well located for the town, was that it got a little noisy outside on Friday night when the pubs shut at 4am, just take some earplugs if your a light sleeper, or join in the fun!!

Everything and more

by TripAdvisor Member brownbeer

Everything has been said about this gem. Outstanding location, Arni is a great host, and the hot tub was terrific. Incredibly comfortable two bedroom apartment (#410), though we spent little time in the apartment itself. Very clean and spacious for the four of us.

Nice views from the balcony.

Note that the entrance to Room with a View is well hidden.

Good base for Reykjavik

by TripAdvisor Member Tinabee

Great location and value for money. our room was spacious and modern with great views of the city and mountains.
It does not offer the same services as a hotel so is ideally suited to independant travellers who want to use it as a central base.
Would agree that it was noisy outside early in the morning !
