The Stykkishólmur campsite.: Camping close to a golf-course.

The campsite in Stykkishólmur (the capital of the West) is excellent. It is a big campsite and the facilities are very good. They just added new bathroom facilities and two (outside) showers. But the swimming pool is next to the campsite so I went there to use the showers. The swimming pool is very good, I recommend you pay it a visit while in Stykkishólmur, it has got jacuzzies with warm sea-water amongst other things.

The campsite is owned by a golf-club called Mostri, and you go to their golf-hut to pay. One night is ISK 900 per person, but the third night is free. I stayed an extra night in Stykkishólmur because of that and changed the location of my tent every night to make it more interesting as there are so many various places for tents there.

At the golf-hut there are good facilites as well, toilets and a washing machine, a lot of information leaflets and the staff is very helpful. There you can also use the Internet, there are three computers there.

The campsite is open from May 15 - September 15.

Unique Quality: The campsite is next to a swimming pool and Bónus supermarket is only a few minutes away from the campsite. I would recommend this campsite to anyone. But I noticed that mostly Icelanders stayed there, I saw only a few tents with tourists.
