Basic with unique qualities

We've spent 2 nights here as part of our around-Iceland trip. As there is so much to see and do in the area it is a very strategic place to stay. There's also a restaurant, a postoffice, a 'shop' and a gas station on the premises making it quite a popular stop-over for bus tours. The hotel part is pretty basic but absolutely ok.

As in many other parts of the country the hot water tap comes with a typical 'rotten egg' smell. It all has to do with the use of the abundant Icelandic geothermal activity. You'll notice that smell throughout the country, but around Myvatn it's particularly noticeable (see also the 'Things To Do' tips). I got used to it eventually.

Unique Quality: The unique quality is particularly applicable for the restaurant. The place is run by two Spanish (!) tanned ponytailed gays making it a perfect bizarre setting for a Lars von Trier movie.
