More about Cabra Castle Hotel
Cabra Castle an Irish Delight
I highly recommend this Castle to anyone who feels they deserve to live like royalty (at least for one night)! Each of the rooms (within the castle) are spacious and I suspect all the views are nice also. The common area rooms throughout the castle are decorated like those in the movies, see the other pictures. There is a wonderful restaurant on the main level of the castle, which offers the best chocolate mousse I've ever had! It is a CASTLE!
Perfect castle splurge!
During my trip to Ireland my companions and I picked one night to splurge on our lodging and spent that night at cabra castle. We were not dissapointed! Great hotel with friendly staff. Oscar the large Irish wolfhound is the lord over this castle for sure! Free golf, heated towel racks in the large bathrooms, a great dinner, and comfortable rooms made this a great night!
Loved the Castle
We stayed in Cabra castle while attending a friends wedding here in April. The location is stunning and peaceful. Our room was a long walk up and down various old but charming staircases; the room had a lovely castle feel to it and is tastefully furnished and very clean. The bathroom was quite small and the water in the hot tap was extremely hot.
The bar area is nice and relaxed with plenty of nooks and crannies to sit and chill out. The ballroom where the wedding was held was excellent, the food was fantastic and the portions were huge.
The staff in the reception and ballroom was extremely helpful, courteous and professional.
Castle stay to short
The Cabra castle was a great choice. My travel agent (12 Travel)
booked the first nite and last in a castle. the staff was very helpful and really tired to make our stay very pleasent. we were booked in the castle (but the wedding was held 2 doors away from the room ) and we didnt want the noise on the first nite in Ireland after the lone trip .So the front dest staff was great and took the time to arrange for (2) rooms in the courtyard suites. Our brother had called the castle to have a bottle of wine delivered to us and he said that the staff was a big help.
rooms were upstairs, so we did have a bring our bags up , the room was clean, modern and very nice.
The breakfast was very well prepared and tasty.
Charming castle with character
We have stayed in Cabra Castle for 1 night (9th June) for friends wedding. In summary: loved it. The castle has very genuine feel to it, perhaps not as luxurious as some, but it feels like a real castle with charm and character not a perfect Disney creation. Consequently, to find your room, you need to go up and down about 3 different staircases and turn left and right until you completely lose sense of direction.
When you finally find the room ... ours was huge with two double beds, furnished in keeping with the castle. Bathroom was huge again, but fairly basic. Peeking into couple of empty rooms, they were all significantly smaller.
They also have number of rooms in the courtyard - new addition, so request castle room if you want the character.
It is great place for events, setting is very very pretty. All the areas used for the wedding really looked classy and we had fantastic time. For mass catering, the food was very impressive.
Great place for a wedding or 1/2 night romantic break.
My Sister' Wedding 5th May 2006, Scary to say the least , Staff, Food ,Drink and of course the setting made it all a FAIRYTALE!! I think that the managent have a deal with God as the weather was fab and set the Castle off to it's best!! si this is a big public thank you from all the family - THANKS !
Was a bit 50/50 about this place
We stayed here for 2 nights in August and were looked after well on checking in. We were given a room in the courtyard when we were hoping for a room in the hotel itself. However, the room we got in the courtyard was nice ~ it was a good size and had a four poster bed. Cleanliness was fine, though it was a little 'worn' in places. The bathroom needed a huge overhaul ~ the tiles were cracked and my husband had to 'do a McGuyver' on the shower head to make the water come out actually in to the bath rather than against the wall!
The room was also a little cold ~ if you don't like the cold get them to put a heater in the room for you ~ the radiators were all switched off from the mains.
The hotel itself is quaint ~ the common area's were fine though lacked 'squashy sofa's'. There were weddings on both the Friday and the Saturday of our stay and the hotel seems to cater to those as a priority ~ the bar and the restaurant were extremely busy all day. We ate there both nights and the food was just 'fine'. Nothing to get carried away about but nothing to complain about either. With every credit to the hotel, we had overslept on the Friday night after a snooze and weren't down to dinner until 9.30 instead of 9 and they still fed us. This was good as it would have been a taxi ride to get to anywhere else!
The hotel grounds were nice enough for a stroll though most of it is a golf course ~ golf is free to residents which is a bonus. We got a discounted deal but I wouldn't have liked to have paid full price for our stay. It lacks spa facilities which is a shame.
We went out on the Saturday to Newgrange which was very good ~ we enjoyed looking around the visitor centre and thought it was good value for money.
When we checked out on Sunday we were charged for 2 mornings worth of room service which we didn't receive as we ate in the restaurant. We asked for the €20 to be refunded and it was without too much argument.
This comes across as a bit of a negative review and I don't mean it to. We had a pleasant enough stay but there was nothing about the place that 'blew us away'. We have stayed at lots of castles throughout Ireland and this would come mid-way on the popularity list.
The hotel accomidations are fine with one exception and that is the water from the tap is dirty. Actually it is turbid. A number of people in my tour group called the front desk to ask about it and were told it was just because it rained that day. Since most people that stay there are tour groups and stay only one night I am sure they tell each person that calls the front desk the same story. As a Civil Engineer that worked on water treatment plants, I know that is not necessarily true. The turbidity is soil so fine that it can't be removed by gravity (suspended solids). In this case the suspended solids is probably treated and probably safe. But turbidity is something that people just don't find agreeable and why most water treatment plants remove it by adding a flloculant that attaches to the suspended solids and then can be removed by gravity. The hotel should have the tubidity removed since it is rated a three or four star hotel.
B&B Hollow Stream
"B&B Hollow Stream"
Traveling to the Cabra Castle in Kingscourt we chanced to stay at a B&B the night before or reservation at the castle. The accommodations were new and the host very polite. They made us a wonderful traditional Irish breakfast before continuing our journey.
Castle's around every turn
"Irelands many Castles"
I had a wonderful travel experience to Ireland and I owe a ton of thanks to the tour company Siobhan Moore's Ireland! They offer a tour that visits numerous castles throughout Ireland and it includes an overnight stay in Cabra Castle!! So for those of you who are fascinated and inspired by castles, this is the tour for you! :]
