the night life

by jennjay

Im from the united states and I am going to ireland for a few weeks. One of the places that I am staying at is Ennis and I would like to know what the night life is for my sister (17) and I (20). What is the drinking age? How old do you have to be to get into the bars? Is parking a problem? Or anything that you might think to help us enjoy the night life in Ireland.

hi
the legal drinking age is 18, most pubs don't check age on way in only when you buy drink. You will be ok in the pubs if you sister is not drinking.Niteclubs are usually strict and will not let anyone in under 21.

Is parking a problem! I hope you don't intend driving home from the pub!!

haha, parking is always a problem in Ireland towns and cities. Ennis also has plenty of pedestrian areas where people just don't use cars.

Travel Tips for Ennis

Pack light

by scubaphoto

Less is better It's always good to have a light rain coat when travelling in Ireland no matter what time of year. Everthing can be purchased in the large shopping stores and chemists. Digital printing available in the town and film sold almost everywhere. Pro flim eg. Slide, or large format is better brought with you as it can be expensive to buy and the development times run in weeks rather than days as it has to be sent to Dublin for processing. No need to buy a map of the town they are available free at train/bus stations and tourist offices.

Cliffs of Moher

by marcelatimmins

The vast void you'll see when visiting the Cliffs have no words for me to express the wonders of nature! Go to the top, see the ruin mounted on it, enjoy the breeze, the silence and the vastity of the view. You won't regret it.

St Columba's Church

by mvtouring

We were looking for the cathedral, took a wrong turning and found this lovely church. sometimes one can be glad that you get lost, cause that is when you discover other fantastic things that you might have missed. The disestablishment of the Church of Ireland from 1871 by an Act of Parliament led that Church to sell many of its estates and bishops' palaces, in the process laying off many Protestant workers who themselves then moved away. However the wealthy protestant William Murphy donated land outside the town centre for the building of this quaint church.

"ennis"

located on the river fergus is the very nice town of ennis. central ennis has narrow medieval streets which are lined with shops and pubs. ennis traces it's origin to the 13th century and was ruled by the o'briens. the towns main attraction is the franciscan friary founded in the 1240's. ennis is about 30 miles from the cliffs of moher and is a good location for a visit to the attractions of the lower shannon.
