Travel Tips for Lehinch

A good walk spolied

by sourbugger

The old Cliche is that Golf is a good walk spoiled.

Lehich golf course rises above this as it is consdered to be one of finest golf courses in the world, and perhaps one of the most 'natural'.

Even Old Tom Morris the legendary course designer had a hand in it's development and he saw it as a case of placing a few tees and holes - and letting nature to the rest.

Although a private course you can get to play this masterpiece - although it will set you back a good 60 euro or more.

For hackers like myself the easier 'castle' course is a possibility or some quite good pitch and putts.

The beach boys sing surfin' Ireland

by sourbugger

Lehinch is trying very hard to become Surf-town Ireland. There are a number of surf shops around the village offering equipment and lessons. There is also a surf school right on the front in the car park. It claims that it is run by a ex-Irish surfing champion.

I do however wonder if the Irish are to the world of Surfing what Fiji are to international competative Ice Skating.

Sourbugger is of the firm opinion that full-body rubber suits should only be used for indoor sports with off-duty Brazilian lapdancers, but, whatever lights your candle...

Great locatio, but here's a warning....

by sourbugger

Despite the Myriad of Bed and Breakfasts in the village and surrounding areas, it is best to book ahead of time, especially on summer weekends.

We recently spent 4 hours searching for accommodation before we struck lucky, and got a whole house to ourselves for the price of a B&B room.

At one house we knocked at the door to enquire about B&B and was greeted by a pair of small boys from the garden who were having a kickabout. After enquiring if their parents were in, they returned after a few minutes.

“Me Da’s not in”

“OK”

“Me Ma’s not in”

“OK”

“There someone on the couch”

“Well can you ask someone on the couch if you have any rooms going”

A few minutes later still the boys returned.

“He said we are all full”

I’m sure I distinctly heard the words “And tell them to Feck off as well” from the distant background.

With customer service like that the Celtic Tiger is in good hands.
