More about Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort
a great luxury hotel
by globetrott about ADARE Manor Hotel
Adare Manor is a luxury hotel that was built inside the old palace and it is still surrounded by a giant park with a river running through it, they have their own golf-course with the ruins of an old friary in the middle (my 2nd and 3rd pictures).
In summertime there will be guards at the gates of the park and they will send away all day-tourists, but some years ago, in April I was lucky to get in and was able to take my photographs. Click on my link below and read more about this hotel !In a place like this, better don't ask for the price - simply bring enough money with you !!!

ADARE MANOR
Much too high rates for me and you ! But if you may afford a Rolls Royce, you may also afford to stay here some time !
-------------------------------------------------------------------- It is a wonderful old castle, situated in a huge park with very old trees and they even have a river running through the park.
In the back of the park they have their own golf-course, built around an old friary.
It is a pity that the park is mostly off limits for visitors, but some years ago I had been there in the low season and there were no guards at the gate to chase me away...
...and I took my chance to take some great pics !

Castles

Ireland has some very beautiful 5 star castle hotels. When I travel, I usually don't like to spend alot of money on accomodations My two main priorities are location and cleanliness since I am out seeing and doing things and not hanging out at the hotel. BUT when we realized that it would only cost $65 more per person to stay at a castle for a night instead of an en suite B&B, we thought it may be a nice thing to do. During high season, a night at one of these castles costs more than my whole 8 day off season trip to Ireland!
Several of the castles were offering this special including Adare Manor, Waterford Castle, and Ashford Castle. We picked Dromoland Castle in County Clare because it is only a 20 minute drive to Shannon airport and we were leaving the next day. Upon arrival ,we recieved a pleasant surprise! We were told we had been given a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room with a view of the lake. I know this all sounds like it was too good to be true, but it was! The room was very large and beautifully furnished. Thick cotton white robes with slippers were on the bed for us, along with a complimentary box of chocolates on the pillow. There was also complimentary Irish whiskey and bottled water too. The room had numerous little extras such as an ironing board, hairdryer and a Cd player with a nice collection of Irish and classical Cds. The bathroom was enormous and even had its own phone.
The castle has 3 restaurants, the nicest being the award winning "The Earl of Thomond Restaurant". Here you can dine while listening to a harpist play. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Men must wear a jacket and tie at this restaurant.
The castle's estate is 360 acres of woodland with a beautiful lake, golf course and riding stables.
Dromoland also has a spa offering all kinds of treaments such as massages, aromotherapy and facials.
IRELAND - Adare

Adare is situated on a major road through Ireland and most people will just see the great straw-thatched houses, shown to Busloads of tourists.
But there you may as well see 4 old friaries and the wonderful Adare Manor House Hotel, that even has its own golf course inside a large park.
...and right in the centre of the golfcourse is another old friary (the one on the top of my pic-combination)
ADARE MANOR

We stayed in Adare. Lots of thatched roof homes, but the best part of ADARE is the ADARE house, castle. It is fantastic. It costs about $400.00 a night to stay but I am telling you it is worth every penny. I had a friend so we could split the cost but DO NOT MISS staying here if you can. I would go back to Ireland again just to stay in this place. Look it up on the internet and see for your self.
The grounds of this place are fantastic. It is like a royal home in the country. Can't begin to describe it. Go, GO, go!!!
No way worthy of 5 star rating!

Having heard rave reviews about Adare Manor I couldn't wait to stay in it - but what a huge disappointment! The drive through the grounds is wonderful and gives you the expectation of something luxerious. But once you step inside, it all goes downhill and the disappointment starts to surface - the place is dark, with no indication of it's 5 star status. Checkin offered no help to carry bags to the room and even worse the room was very poor - dreary, in severe need of refurbishment and very very very basic. The bedlinen was crumpled and not very inviting. I know the manor is old - but that doesn't excuse not being able to create that "wow factor" which just wasn't there. Having stayed in some truely gorgeous hotels I was expecting something special as a "leading hotel of the world". Instead I was hugely disappointed as it lacked all the special touches and attention to detail I was looking forward to. You may think Adare Manor is perfect for a romantic weekend - it is from the outside, but inside it feels much more like a 3 star hotel with huge potential - but needing massive overhaul to bring it to 5 star standards!. Yes the food was beautiful and the grounds gorgeous. But no way is Adare Manor worthy of 5 star status! There are a huge number of wonderful places to stay in Ireland - Adare Manor just isn't one of them!!!
Absolutely Fabulous

We have just returned from a Month in Ireland and Adare Manor was without a doubt the highlight of our trip. We spent three days at the Manor and it was simply not long enough. The setting was beautiful and the staff were the most wonderful we have ever come across and we have stayed at many of the finest hotels. Nothing was too much to ask from organising day trips to Dingle and the Aran Islands to recommending and booking hotels in Dublin and Kilkenny. The food was great and there were both fine dining and casual options. We look forward to returning in the future but the next time we shall make sure that we stay for longer.
Great Hotel

We recently stayed for the one night at Adare Manor.
It was our anniversary, and so the hotel kindly upgraded us to a large suite with a nice view of the River Maigue and adjoining golf course.
The hotel inside is very nice, particularly the reception, breakfast area and small bar complete with cozy fire.
The room was large and nicely furnished with a huge bed. All the staff were very friendly and attentive, without at all being obtrusive. There were loads of cooked and cold options for the included breakfast which was both very nice and plentiful.
My wife also had some of the treatments at the spa on the grounds, which she said was fabulous.
Overall, great hotel to stay for a quiet, relaxing time.

We got married in Adare Manor early last year and from beginning to end the experience was amazing. We stayed for 4 days in total and the staff couldn't have done enough. Our guests also stayed for a few days and enjoyed it so much they are still talking about it !! The staff were very friendly and were always on hand. In particular Damien the new manager who was soo helpful. The food was excellant beginning with a very good buffet each morning. Guillame the head of Food and Beverages was also very good.
We had the stateroom which was fab and the majority of our guests had delux rooms and they were beautiful. However there was a huge difference between the standard and delux and i would highly recommend paying the extra for delux...the standard rooms I saw were very disappointing.
Bar that i would go back in a flash. Adare is a beautiful town if you even leave the manor, it is so lovely you won't want to step outside the front door, never mind gate !
Gorgeous castle on green grounds
by TripAdvisor Member Tinkerbelly
This was a very nice treat! We entered the grounds and all is green around. We arrived to the castle/hotel and were greeted nicely. Our bags made it to our rooms before we reached our rooms. Upon entry of the castle, we got a miny tour of the place which was very nice. Then finally to our rooms. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. A bucket was freshley filled with ice and a glass bottle of water awaited us. We had reservations for dinner in the oak room for a 5 course meal. There is a dress code for the oak room. We walked the grounds and took pictures. Dinner was splendid and delicious. Everyone was extremely nice and warming. They had someone come around to the rooms to open up the bed and place chocolates at the bedside. They would also place fresh ice in the buckets and new glasses and water. Everytime we ran into hotel personnel they asked if all was okay and if we needed anything. The bathroom shower is great...pressurized and warm water. The bath towels lay against the furnace and are warm when you get out of the shower. We had a nice view of the Maigue River that ran along the castle. Newspaper awaits at the door in the morning. In the morning we had a early flight out of Shannon, we called for our lugguage to be picked up to be taken out to our car. Wow...it was fast service!! I thought it would atleast take 10 minutes for the porter to come get the bags....more like 60 seconds. All was nice and charming. Would love to come back and stay again!!

Anyone have any favorite things to do or places to eat in Adare? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Adare is often called Ireland's most picturesque village and it is quaint and beautiful. There is a visitor information and heritage centre in the main street near Holy Trinity Church which has free maps and information about the village and some interesting displays. Most of the places to see are located in this street including some ancient churches and gorgeous thatched cottages. Its very compact and can be seen in an hour or two. There are a few cafes and pubs. I had a nice lamb roast at the pub on the left side of Main Street near the intersection with Rathkeale Road. Sorry but the name escapes me. Desmond Castle, which can be seen on the left as you enter the village from Limerick is having renovation work done and may be closed.

Walk around the beautiful grounds of Adrae Maor Hotel and Gold Resort; there are ruins there and you can walk to Desmond Castle. In one part of the garden there are ancient Ogham stones. We ate in both the Clubhouse and the main hotel, and found the food to be very good.

Sorry about the typo--Adare Manor Hotel
Re: Adare

Adare is a very picturesque village but apart from strolling up and down the main street ( to admire the very pretty thatched cottages) and visitiing Adare Manor, there's not a lot to do there.
It's only about 16km from Limerick where there's a lot to see and do that could be an option you could consider.
If you can afford to stay or eat at Adare Manor then go for it as it's really spectacular in terms of the building and the grounds.

Touring around south west
by manraisedbypuffin
Hi,
My wife and I are flying into Shannon at the end of February for four days. We have a car for these four days and are wanting to tour around the areas of interest.
We appreciate there is isnt a lot to do in Shannon so Can anyone recommend places to go/places to stay in and around Limerick etc. and what will the weather be like?
Re: Touring around south west

We did a similar trip a few years ago. We first spent a night near Galway City -stayed at a great place on Connemara Bay. It's a B&B called Son Amar. My husband is an Irish music player so this trip was right up his alley. From there we drove down, took the ferry across the Shannon and spent a few nights outside Killarney. The drive around the Ring of Kerry was beautiful, especially the roads that go up high into the mountains. A lot of tourists avoid that road, but it was fine. We didn't stay in Limerick... can't help you with that. I'd expect cool weather and maybe rain. It's a lot like our part of the world. Whoops - almost forgot our stop at the Cliffs of Mohr. Don't miss that.

Visit the village of Adare--very picturesque, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, and St. John's Castle in Limerick. If you've read Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt, it's fun to tour Limerick and see the places mentioned in the book. Of course, you are not far from Cliffs of Moher and Killarney. We enjoyed Durty Nellie's across from Bunratty Castle. We stayed at the Adare Manor Hotel:5-star and pricey but we loved it--beautiful and interesting grounds. The golf course villas on the Adare property were less expensive than within the hotel itself, but the rooms are new, large and lovely.

For something like this I would check with the concierge of the place you are staying, or sometimes I try the concierge of one of the nicer places in the area, even though I am not staying there, such as the Adare Manor (http://www.adaremanor.com/) I have oftentimes found they are extremely helpful even if you are not a guest. Do you mean a mini-bus or people-carrier (capable of carrying several people) rather than a mini-van (which is a small van with no windows)? I am going to assume so....

seem to fit your requirements.
