Shannon Tip

when we got home and had our film developed we noticed a different chandelier ornament from what we had noticied while visiting...
This is not graphically enhanced...this ghost really appears on the photo sitting on the chandelier hanging from the ceiling!
Nice way to wait for the plane!
by elmendorfs
The duty free 'shopping area' in the Shannon Airport has a nice variety of good quality products at reasonable prices, including wool sweaters, shawls, throws, etc, and fine crystal. Save the energy of carying your gifts all over Ireland. Do your gift shopping while you wait for your plane home!
Watch for the big metal birdies

Right next to the airport at Shannon lies a championship golf course. You can play as a guest, and is considered to be a fine inland course.
It does however feature a couple of interesting features. The 17th is considered to be a 'signature' hole with a tee shot that spans part of the Shannon river estuary.
The other feature is of couse the fact that you 'good walk spoiled' will in fact be spoilt by Mr Michael O'Leary and his collection of Boeing taking the unwashed masses to Europe.
I have no idea if there are any bye-laws that pertain to hitting a plane whilst taking a tee shot, but I reckon it is at least possible.
Unusual Natural Bridge
by elmendorfs
The Bridges of Ross, is an interestiing area where water has washed tunnels under parts of the land and formed 'bridges'. In talking to locals, there were apparently more bridges in the past, but only one really remarkable one remains today. This is located along the coast near Doonbeg going toward Loop Head.
How to avoid queues in America
by sourbugger
Notice, if you will, that the departure hall at Shannon airport includes a few square meters of carpet that is actually part of the USA. Rather unusually, an outpost of the Immigration service is located here - so you are officially in the USA once you pass through. That should save a bit of time on the other side of the pond. On the other hand you will still have customs and agriculture to go through.
