Convenience, Service and Comfort
We have stayed at the Great Southern Shannon for the past three trips.
From our first visit, we were amazed at the thoroughness and attention to detail exhibited by all of the staff. We had requested non-smoking rooms with two beds in each room. Upon our arrival, we found that we had been given smoking rooms with a single queen bed in each. The desk clerk made sure we were settled in the lounge and then set about making the necessary changes. The only rooms that were available were in the upper price range but they graciously settled us in to the new rooms without charging us any additional.
The beds were soft and comfortable, a huge plus from someone who has sleep issues due to chronic pain. There were plenty of pillows to be had in the room and yet we were asked if more pillows might be needed. The towels were plentiful and thirsty. The toiletries they provided actually didn't dry out the skin like most hotel soaps and shampoos.
The gentlemen in our group were ecstatic to find real coffee and a coffee pot in our rooms. It had been a great hunt throughout Ireland for real, brewed coffee.
The breakfast the next morning prior to our departure was more than we expected. They offer a grand breakfast buffet with cook to order eggs, a variety of fruits, cereal and other breakfast goodies. They also had fresh squeezed orange juice and REAL COFFEE.
I recommend this hotel to everyone who has asked me to create an itinerary for their Irish vacation. It is the perfect place for taking your leave of Ireland.
Unique Quality: Their proximity to the departure terminal, just walk across the parking lot and there you are.
Blair's Bar has an incredible turf fireplace and terrific pub grub!
They have accommodations available for those with disabilities.

Ahh....horizontal is grand!
Stayed here one night last November. Arrived at Shannon airport at 10:00AM after an overnight flight from Baltimore. Was grand to stretch out horizontal after the long trip and rest for few hours. Some day I'll learn to spring for the outragous cost of business class - maybe. When we arrived the wind was howling at about 50 MPH and the rain was torrential. A few close calls just getting out of the parking lot! Did a little practice driving on the left side to Bunratty Castle and back - parked it - and calmed the nerves at the hotel's decent pub.
Found the hotel a solid value - good sized rooms and clean. Good breakfast in the dining area. A good first night place to switch gears and then set off the next day well rested. Not much in the area except the airport and open fields, about a 20 minute drive to Bunratty Castle.
If it is your first time to Ireland and if you did take the red eye to get there, I would strongly recommend you hold off renting the car and just walk over to this hotel and rest up. A good rest and you'll be right as rain and even the driving won't disturb you. Ireland will keep drawing you back and as you get used to the changes it is easier to just get off the plane and jump in a car.
Unique Quality: Good restaurant and pub.

Great Southern Shannon Airport Photo: From their website
We stayed in the Great Southern Hotel in Shannon the night before we flew out on holidays. We thought the hotel was very nice and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Nothing was any trouble for them. We ate in the Blair's Bistro and the service and the food were very good - our waitress (Polina I think her name was) was very professional and very friendly. We went to the small bar which is so quaint and found the bar staff to be lovely also. I would definately stay in this hotel again.
nice people, dirty room

We stayed to catch an early flight from Shannon - and realized that there was something that looked like gravy on the sheets and blanket the morning after we had slept in the bed!
The bathroom had plenty of mildew too.
No breakfast and the cost was e120 - we'll stay in the town centre next time.

Staff werent' the friendliest and they seemed to have lost our booking until we showed them our e-mail confirmation. They also tried to charge us an extra 20 euros until we showed them the e-mail confirming our online discount!
That aside however, we stayed in a queen size room which was very spacious, had a big desk and bed with lots of storage space. The room and en suite was clean and although the bath and shower were obviously quite dated - it is what you can expect of a large airport hotel. Obviously, like most large hotels, the furniture feels rather cold and it lacks the personal touch of smaller establishments.
However, we stayed here because our flight got in at 11:30 and we were leaving early in the morning. It was expensive for what we got in comparison to other places on our trip but for the convenience of being close to the airport - if that's what you need - then if you can get a good deal, it's worth considering, just don't expect anything too plush.
Close to Airport/Friendly staff!

My husband and I booked this room for our first and last night's stay in Ireland because it's close to the airport! Literally, within walking distance!!! That helps a great deal after spending 8 hrs. or so on a jet getting there, and also for car rental returns and what have you at the end of your trip! The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in as soon as we got there because they had a room ready. I have to say though that it did seem a little dated for what we're used to in hotels here in the states, but i guess it's part of that Irish charm! ha! Overall they have a friendly, helpful staff, and grrrreat location for people flying into Shannon from long tiring flights! I'm glad we stayed there for those reasons if none other!!
