Loop Head Lightkeepers House: Holiday of a Lifetime!
Four wonderful days of solitude surrounded by magnificent views of the Irish coastline. The sounds of the wind and rain outside while snuggled by the warm fire inside provided a delightfully romantic experience. And when it wasn't raining, the sunsets, cliffs, and beautiful blue water provided endless scenes of majestic beauty. The lightkeeper's house is very well maintained and furnished, but not luxurious. No phone, no tv, no internet, no room service, just peaceful beauty. If you're looking for a holiday "away from it all", this is the perfect place. We couln't possibly recommend it any higher! And we hope and pray to return someday!
All the basics, but no frills. Plenty of bedding and utinsils but no local fuel for the stove, no dishwasher, clothes washer, tv, phone, internet, pool, hot tub, or maid service. However, waking up to see huge hares hopping across he lush grass with the coastline and ocean in the background was an experience not soon to forget. The Loop Head location is surrounded by 300 degrees of water, with only a small strip of land where the road connects to the larger peninsula. Unfortunately, we didn't see any whales, dolphins, or seals, but in better weather all have been seen from the sitting room or the cliffs. Unless you have walked along the Irish coastline, it's impossible to describe the majestic beauty in words that can convey the experience. But hopefully some of the pictures will give you a taste.

The Bungalow: Affordable self catering cottage
Exactly what we had hoped for! This was our first trip to Ireland, and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The Bungalow is a large 4 bedroom farmhouse in a working farm. Brigid and Michael Kelly run the farm and live next door. They also rent a property that is smaller called the Cosy Barn. The Bungalow had a walled yard and private drive, and is located on a small country road less than a km from the main road between Doonbeg and Kilkee. We arrived very late in the evening (11pm) and Brigid and Michael met us in Kilrush so that we wouldn't have any problems finding the property in the dark. They were wonderful, delightful, friendly, helpful hosts, but never in the way. They provided peat and fire starters for the open fireplace in the sitting room. And even made a phone call for us to facilitate our transition from the Bungalow to the Loop Head Light House. The Bungalow does not have a phone. This is a very affordable, convenient, and pleasant place to stay, but not luxurious. We loved every minute, highly recommend it, and would love to come back again! After staying 4 days at the light house we returned for one additional night at the Bungalow, and it was like "coming home".
The house was very clean, well maintained, and nicely furnished with lots of warm bedding and mattress warmers! It was complete with a nice utility room next to the kitchen that had an automatic dishwasher, and a clothes washer. But the 'clothes dryer' was a web of clothes lines stretched in the back yard. Affective, but a little tricky with the amount of rain we had. The huge "picture window" in the kitchen looked out across the farm which was complete with cows and calves just across the wall from the yard.

Moonlight House B&B: Perfect B&B for Shannon Airport
Brief but delightful stay as we left Ireland by way of Shannon Airport. Esther and Martin Murphy were wonderful hosts, and even delivered our girls to the airport the day after Sheila and I left.
Comfortable, clean, well maintained, home overlooking a lake near the village of Quin. Approximately 1km from Knappogue Castle, and about 3km from Craggaunowen, a "living past" prehisoric park. Quin Abbey, an interesting 15th century monastery built on the foundation of a 13th century Norman castle, and the Abbey Pub are in the village about 3km away.

Park House: A wonderful B&B in Shannon area
Mairead was a wonderful hostess...breakfast was plentiful. The house is very CLEAN in very well decorated (I admire someone who isn't afraid of color). This isn't your standard white-washed clinical facility. It is obvious the proprietor takes great pride in her home. She also took us in at the last minute.
This B&B is literally only 10 minutes from the airport...2 minutes from Bunratty Castle (We visited in November, the proximity to a very popular tourist attraction might cause traffic problems in the high season?).
Very comfortable, clean, plenty of hot water.

Bunratty Lodge is a lovely B&B...
Bunratty Lodge is a lovely B&B hosted by the Browne family. It is tastefully furnished, comfortable and near to Bunratty Castle. Reservations are needed because it always books up! Convenient to Shannon airport for first and last days of your visit. By the way, try to get your air reservations for leaving later in the morning - we had to catch a 7am flight - with the 2 hours required before international air travel and a half hour for returning the rental car, we had to leave our B&B at 4:30 am - and missed our breakfast -one of the highlights of the B&B experience! Fortunately, Mrs Browne fixed a light snack the night before so we had something to eat before our long day traveling home! Bunratty Lodge

Dromoland Castle: Dromoland Castle
When we stayed, the website was offering a midweek special for 2 nights per person including breakfast and dinner, and a standard room for around $285. We were able to stay in a suite (definately well worth the extra $) and for 2 people 2 nights, breakfast & dinner, it came to around $900 total.
A 16th century castle that once belonged to the O'Brien family (Barons of Inchiquin).

Shannon Cottage Country Home: 200 Year's of History, Modern Hospitality
As you will determine from other lodging suggestions, I prefer to stay in houses that are older and have been loving restored. Shannon Cottage doesn't disappoint. It is a 200 year old cottage which has been refurbished to modern living standards while still keeping most of its old world appeal. It has pine beams and pine floors, which are the original.
All of the bedrooms are ensuite, furnished in pine, as well, to complement. There is coffee/tea set-ups in each room. The beds are extremely comfortable. The showers have excellent pressure and the hot water plentiful. Our room had a view of O'Brien's bridge across the Shannon.
Breakfast is a delight! Anne Hyland makes some of the best scones. Her soda bread will have you requesting the recipe. Breakfast itself is served in the Parlour lounge, which is the oldest part of the house.
45- 50 minutes from Shannon Airport
A short walk from shops & pubs

Kells Country House: Castle Lodging without Castle Cost
Though not an ancient Castle, Kells Country House certainly gives the outward appearance of one. The hospitality and interior decor will also have you feeling as if you have become Royalty for a day or two.
It sits on five acres. Each bedroom is ensuite. The beds are extremely comfortable, encouraging one to lay about for a day, except that there is so much waiting just outside the doors! Every room has tea/coffee making facilities, top-notch showers and plentiful hot water. Most rooms overlook the Shannon river. Every Room will have a great view. The gardens are delightful to spend some time whilst savoring a morning cup of cofee. All of the bedrooms are on the ground floor.
I would highly recommend it as a stay before you depart from Shannon, as it is only 10 minutes form the airport.
10 minutes from Shannon Airport
Ideal base to tour the Burren, Cliffs of Moher and Connemara.
10 Minute drive to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
5 minutes from Dromoland Castle

Moloney's Bed and Breakfast: Shannon B&B
This was the first time I've ever stayed at a B&B. Hubby and I whispered a lot. Very nice house and hostess. Nice, quiet neighborhood. Pleasant breakfast company, good breakfast -- my first inkling that we weren't in the US anymore: "bacon" that looked very much like ham, and eggs that were... poached? I'm not sure, but they were good. Fell in love with Ireland's butter here. Also the first of many small shower stalls.
Pretty, very clean, nice place. If you like a firm bed, this is a good spot for you.

Travelodge: Travelodge Limerick
We had a family room for 59 euros, its clean, easy to find, (first roundabout off the main carraigeway as you approach Limerick. There were cows at the back on other fields and each road leads you into Limerick. The price was the same as Jurys in which is just over the bridge and in the city. we would of booked at jurys for the same price but it was hard to do with kids on their website so we chose this only 5 mins from town. close also to a bowling alley and fast food center.

West County: convenient and good food
Nice place for a tour group-good food-had lamb, shrimp, lots of mashed potatoes and broccoli and carrots, and carrot cake-Erin had the bacon and fruit-but too salty-this was in the hotel's restaurant. Back in our room-their electrical outlets are very different-even with the converter ect.-we managed to blow out the circuits and tv with our hair dryer. Slept well though.
