Comfortable hotel close to the Castle

I debated between staying at this hotel or a well recommended B&B and decided to stay here because we weren't sure how late we'd be getting into Blarney, I didn't want to have to pick a time to show up nor did I want to be searching the backroads of Blarney after dark. The hotel was quite easy to find as you just follow the signs for the large Blarney Woolen Mills shop. We also figured it would be easier to stay here than Cork, in any event I wanted to visit Blarney Castle in the morning before heading to Cork for the hubby's swim race. It took about 20 minutes to get from Blarney to Cork.

Unique Quality: Room-we booked a double room for 69€ directly with the hotel, there was a queen bed and a single bed in the room, the 3rd time on this trip our room had that configuration. The bed was reasonably comfortable, there was tea service in the room and a hairdryer. Some of the rooms advertised that they had a castle view, I don't believe ours did.

Bathroom-shower/tub with plenty of hot water, toiletries included bath gel, shampoo and soap

Our rate had breakfast included, it was served buffet style and had eggs, bacon, sausage, juice, toast and a few more items, I think you could make yourself a full Irish breakfast but I really don't dig the white and black puddings or tomato or mushroom for breakfast.

We could have also used the health club had we been so inclined, lots of weight machines, treadmills, bikes, and exercise classes. There was even a squash court.

Blarney Castle was a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, there's free parking in the hotel lot.

More about Blarney Woollen Mills Hotel

Our 3rd night, near Blarney Castle

by danmcf about The White House B&B

This was the other B&B we stayed at that was recommended by Michelle & Terry Flynn tours, it also was well rated at Tripadvisor.com.
As with all our other B&B rooms so far, we've been given a nice size family room with a double bed for the wife & I, while our daughter gets a single bed.

This is the 1st B&B where coffee isn't brought to the breakfast table, but all other breakfast items are the same:
2 eggs 'sunny side up'; sausuge & bacon (I opt for 1 link/slice each instead of the usual 2); 'black & white pudding'; mushrooms; tomato (I give this to the wife); various breads, and sometimes fruits as well. Nice view of the Blarney Castle from the B&B front steps. We were able to walk to the Blarney Woolen Mills (which has become a chain of tourist gift shops that sells just about everything to do with Ireland) to do most all our vacation shopping.
Probably the best 'unique quality' of staying here (or anywhere in Blarney for that matter) is the fact that you can beat the tour buses to kissing the Blarney Stone, thus avoiding the lines & the spit of all those who proceeded you.

All in all though, this B&B has once again raised the bar on what we'll expect from an Irish B&B.

You can find all kinds of things in the Blarney Woolen Mills. They offer a vast variety of Sweaters, crystal, china, pottery, linens, teas, candies, and souveniers. They have 3 floors of merchandise to find your treasures to bring back home! Sweaters made in Ireland, artwork of Blarney, pottery, candies, linens and teas. Sweaters run from 49 euro to 150 euro.

Kiss the Blarney stone!

The Blarney Castle grounds are so pretty. It's worth the trip to Cork even if that's the only attraction in that area. Shop at the Blarney Woolen Mills after and down a few guiness at a local pub.

See as many of the towns as possible....one is more beautiful than the next. One great shopping store is called Blarney Woolen Mills. Has everything.
Buy your 'Irish' stuff in Ireland...its cheaper and with 'Tax Back' for tourists you cant go wrong

Q: question "If I am staying in Cork, how long would it take to walk to Blarney Castle?"

A: "By road from the centre of Cork (not necessarily your starting point) it is around 6 miles. You will not, of course, be able to walk alongside the motorway. So it will..."
