Great B & B !!

We just returned from a trip to Ireland and had a wonderful experience staying at the Fernroyd house in Cork. Avril and Tony were wonderful hosts and made us feel at home. When we arrived after a long drive, we were welcomed with afternoon tea, pastries and relaxing conversation that included great tips on getting around the area, good restaurants and things to do. Our room was very comfortable, fresh and nicely decorated. Breakfast was made to order and delicious. I appreciated the wireless internet and my wife enjoyed their friendly dog, Chippy. We felt our stay was outstanding and highly recommend the Fernroyd B&B.

First time in Eire, Fernroyd B&B was an excellent choice. Booked online after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. Avri, Tony and the Staff were very good to us. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything was immaculately clean, Breakfast was superb, scones were to die for. Good location, no wonder it is rated #1. would recommend this B&B to anyone and when I return to Eire will stay at Fernroyd again.
Loved the Fernroyd House. Will return.

My parents and I visited the Fernroyd House at the end of a 9-day Ireland holiday in May, 2006. We had just come from two 5-star hotels in Dublin & Mount Juliet, and have to say the Fernroyd House was the highlight of our accomodations. Within minutes of arriving @ 8:30 pm in the evening, Tony & Avril (the owners) had recommended a fantastic restaurant, called & made a reservation for us, and Tony even drove us into town for the dinner as it was getting late. Tony & Avril also gave us great suggestions of pubs in Cork and places to see on our day trips to Cobh and the Blarney Castle.
The rooms were great --Clean, comfortable, and both with beautiful views of the back garden area. The location is fantastic. Just a 2-minute walk to the University which is a beautiful place for a 30 min walk or picnic and just a 10-minute walk to St Patrick St and the City Center, but it's also on a very quiet street.
Breakfast was delicious and we appreciated the variety. Try the scones and traditional Irish breakfast that Avril cooks up. Delightful.
We definitely experienced all the well known friendliness, generosity, and warmth of the Irish people throughout our trip, but Tony & Avril were the tops. As we were leaving, Tony offered us a copy of a sketch of the Fernroyd House as a going away momento. A wonderful experience in Cork.
Great B&B

We traveled through Ireland in early to mid April with another couple. We stayed in a B&B every night, but one. The Fernroyd House was definitely our favorite out of all of the places we stayed. The couple who ran it were teriffic. They were helpful with advice, but not at all pushy and they were fun to talk to. We enjoyed the setting and it was an easy walk into downtown Cork. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast was the best of all the B&B we stayed in.
We have already recommended this B&B to others and hope to go back again on our next trip.
Perfect choice B&B for Cork

My daughter and I stayed at Fernroyd House about a week ago (early June 2006) and we enjoyed our one night's stay very much. Our room was downstairs right by the front door and across from the dining room so we missed the lovely back garden views, but our beds were comfy, and the bath and shower were really nice. We stayed at over 8 B&Bs during our two week trip to Ireland and Tony and Avril were the nicest and most welcoming of all of our hosts. Tony even helped us to find the road for the highway we needed to get to Cobh by having us follow him the morning we left -- a very nice gesture considering we weren't his only guests that morning that he was attending to. Avril was so bubbly and warm as well and made us feel very welcome.
Several other B&Bs in the area may also have high ratings, but they are all on a very busy and noisy Western Road. Tony and Avril's Fernroyd House is right off that road, but on a very quiet street and I would recommend it over the others for that reason alone, but the added bonus of their warmth and excellent hosting and their yummy breakfast is icing on the cake.
Great choice for Cork--The Fernroyd House

We booked 5 nights in June in the Fernroyd House as a base to explore Cork and what a perfect choice!.It is in an ideal peaceful location, off Western road, approximately 10 minutes walk to Cork city and minutes away from UCC.The B&B is modern bright and extremelly clean. Our upstairs ensuite bedroom overlooked a beautiful back garden. The room was uncluttered and relaxing with a very comfortable bed.
A tasty selection is available for breakfast.Avril made us porridge (not on the menu and out of season!) which was the best ever.
Avril and Tony (owners) are a wonderful couple making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We would highly recommend staying at the Fernroyd House to experience how welcoming they are and the genuine hospitality they give.Nothing is a problem to them. Our trip to Cork was made even more memorable, enjoyable and relaxing due to staying at Fernroyd House. We'll be back to Fernroyd House when we next return to Cork.

In June of 2006 I had the opportunity to stay at the Fenroyd House in Cork. Upon arrival we were greeted and made to feel welcom and comfortable. The owners were friendly and helpful. They helped to find restaurants, arrange transportation by cab, bus , and train and gave us a list of must see sights while in the area. The room was clean and we were made to feel welcome throughout the house even when a guest wandered into the private areas of the home they were told it was not a problem and not to worry about it. We witnessed this a couple of times. The other guests were friendly and it was easy to mingle with them. I would stay here again any time I had the opportunity.
My Second Visit Was Even Better!

My second visit was even nicer than the first, it felt like I was coming home. It was great to see Avril & Tony again. This time around I stayed for five days with a friend. She absolutely loved the place.
I cannot stress enough how warm, genuine and helpful the host of this B&B are. They are very welcoming and give you all the information you need to have a great holiday in County Cork.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious, as a vegetarian I had plenty of options. Avril makes the best scones (don't tell my mother). I encourage you to try this B&B don't take my word for it go see for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
Fernroyd House is in a great location on a quiet street off the Western Road near the UCC and a mere ten minutes walk to the City Centre. This time I explored Cork City alot more. There are some great shopping bargains if you take the time to look. The weather was fantastic for the whole week.
I recommend taking the bus to Blarney which is 5.20 euro return a bargain for a great day out. While in Blarney you can visit the Castle as well as the Blarney Wollen Mills. The place is full of beautiful and unique things, be careful you can do a lot of damage to your credit card.
I also recommend going to St Anne's church to ring the Shandon Bells and climb to the top to get a panoramic view of the city. It is fantastic. There are some great pubs in the city centre and Avril and Tony can recommend places to eat we went to several of their choices and were not disappointed.
Needless to say I have falling in love with Cork and will be back to visit, Fernroyd house will always be my First Choice for accommodations.
Fantastic- you will love it

Stayed one night with Avril and Tony in June and we wished it had been longer. It was the best B&B of our entire 10 day trip. The room was bright and spotless, everything matched, the towels were new and fluffy, the carpet spotless, the bath bright and spacious. After night after night of moldy showers that were so small you couldn't wash your feet, worn bedding, dirty carpets we were so delighted to stay at the Fernroyd House. Our room was in the back overlooking their gardens with bird baths and feeders. It was the first night we didn't have drunken pub crawlers outside the window and traffic noise. They are on a small lane across from the University of Cork - pretty campus to walk thru.
The breakfast was wonderful - but the personal touch was the best. They are a lovely family and wonderful to chat with. Their dog Chippie was the frosting on the cake. He is a sweetie and just what we needed as we were homesick for our pooch. They don't have many rooms and book quickly so don't delay - plan a visit to Cork and Fernroyd House and you will not be sorry.
The best B & B in Ireland

I have just returned from a weekend in Cork where I stayed in the Fernroyd House B & B.
The B & B was fantastic. The rooms are clean, homely and modern. The breakfast was superb, especially the homemade scones! The owners are perfect hosts offering great advice on visiting Cork along with much welcomed friendly chats. Do not hesitate to book yourself into this B and B (but save a couple of rooms for us next year!!)
