WHERE GEORGE BERNARD SHAW USED TO STAY

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 19, 2014

I would recommend this hotel very much indeed. It's an old style sort of place but with great modern facilities. Staff is very friendly and efficient. You can have a very relaxing time here, and as the hotel overlooks the bay the views are ever changing and beautiful. Within walking distance of the ferry to the beautiful Garnish Island.

Unique Quality: This old time place has got rooms with fabulous views over the bay and Garnish Island. I woke up here one morning to see a sea mist rising gently from the water as the sun rose, it was a lovely moment, one that made my stay amazing. Downstairs in the lobby are comfortable seats and a huge welcoming fire place. George Bernard Shaw is said to have written extensively while staying here, as did William Butler Yeats, the hotel has a quite a historic past and you can feel this if you are sensitive to that sort of thing. An amazing place to stay.

Directions: On the N71 as you drive from Bantry to Glengarriff.
