More about Desmond House Kinsale
This is one great secret
We have just returned from Scotland and Ireland after 10 days and we stayed at this property for 3 nights. It was actually the first 3 nights in this part of the world. I can not tell you how elated we are for staying here. Michael and Anne and the best host/hostess we found in the 10 day trip. Extremely accommodating and a wonderful place to stay. In our haste to leave to catch a plane to Dublin from Cork, I left one bag at the B&B. They had the bag delivered to Dublin 3 days later and we picked it up before leaving the country. I do not know of any proprietor ever doing this. They are just great people and made our romantic getaway every more romantic. The room was excellent. Breakfast was massive and great. This is the place to stay in Kinsale Ireland. Great location
Perfect welcome to Ireland
This was our first trip to Ireland and our first time staying in a bed and breakfast. Coming from Canada and driving on the left side of the road for the first time, we were a bit stressed when we arrived. Michael and Anne made us feel very welcome even though we arrived early. Our room, the Desmond Castle Suite, was huge, beautifully decorated with an extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast the next morning was very good and beautifully presented.
For our introduction to this wonderful country, we couldn't have chosen a finer place to stay.
Desmond House Is Wonderful!
We stayed at the Desond House for two wonderful days and nights! We loved our stay immensely - the room was great, the breakfast bountiful and delicious. The best, however, are the two wonderful people who own and operate the guesthouse. Anne and Michael made sure we were well taken care of. People like Anne and Michael make Ireland the place of choice for us!
A little gem in the heart of kinsale
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Michael and his family.
The standard was very high, the breakfast was amazing nothing was too much trouble for them and Michael still managed to find time to tell us of any interesting events happening at the time or places of interest. We would recommend Desmond House to everybody and plan to return as soon as possible.
Really Very Nice
We really liked this place. The location was great! The innkeeper very very nice . . . looks a lot like what you would expect a former sailor to look like. The room was very comfy, bathroom more than adequate and the rate was reasonable. They have off street parking which is great as well. The directions to the place were confusing, but then not many towns in Ireland believe in street signs the way we do in America, so when in Rome . . . .
The breakfast was okay, but then I'm a food snob, so I'm hard to please. Coffee was good and hot. Also, Fishy Fishy is the place for lunch!
We would definately stay here again.
A Warm and wlcoming Spot
We had a lovely stay at the Desmond House. Michael turned out to be our most gracious host throughout Ireland. We were in Ireland for nine days and spent two nights at the Desmond House. His suggestions for dinner and activities were right on target. We felt very comfortable staying in his home. We would definitely go back. A couple from PA, USA
Desmond house is superb!
All the wonderful things you will read in the reviews below are true!
Michael and Anne are superb and helpful hosts. The in-town location is perfect (park your car in the lot across the street and leave it there until you leave Kinsale). The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. The wonderful Irish breakfasts include the best smoked salmon we have ever tasted. And the original Fishy Fishy is just down the road. We wouldn't even consider going anywhere else.
Desmond House -- Perfect, just perfect.
After a long drive from Kilkenny, my friend and I were eager to settle into our next B&B. We were delighted with the Desmond House. When we arrived in Kinsale, we called the host, Michael, for directions, and he came to met us and directed us to a parking lot right across from his B&B. He graciously helped us with our luggage and showed us into our lovely room. The room was spacious and the beds very comfy. He had a wealth of historical information to share about the B&B and the area. Our breakfast was delicious and was served in a pleasant room. The location is perfect -- just a block from the hub of the town. I highly recommend the Desmond House.
Kinsale, Ireland was an adorable fishing town located in Southern Ireland. We stayed in the Old Presbytery, and I felt very much at home.
If you are ever in Kinsale you must got to the brewery!!! If you take the tour you get a free half pint of beer and learn some good stuff too!
Charles Fort was very informative (In service until 1922 when the English left the town and handed it over to the Irish governement) and had a lovely view of the bay! It was built in 1670 by the English (after they took over) and was suppose to protect Kinsale from naval attacks. It was, however, not well protected from attack by land (taken under siege by William of oragnge's army 1690).
For dinner I would reccomend Hoby"s!!! Delicious! Also Crackpots is good!!!
Shopping-lots of neat stores but my personal favorite was Stone Mad!!!

"Kinsale is beautiful!"
My favorite thing about Kinsale is how I couldn't believe what I was seeing was real. Everywhere is green and sunny. The view from where we stayed (Harbour hill house) was amazing. The sea, the fields, the green rolling hills were all things I had only dreamed of seeing. And the weather was great. Locals were complaining of the record-high, 86 degrees Fareinheit weather, and I was enjoying every bit of it.
Charles Fort was a fun place to visit. We didn't go in because we didn't feel like paying, but the outside is free and fun and gorgeous.
"Kinsale equals shopping!"
There are all kinds of shops like this in Kinsale. There are jewelry shops, lace shops, antique shops... leave the boys at home and designate a shopping day! Even if you don't care for what the shops carry, they are always fun to look at!
