More about Trident Hotel
We really liked the Trident
by TripAdvisor Member nursedude
My wife and I have stayed at the Trident twice, both times being enjoyable experiences. Everything in town is within walking distance, and the view of the harbor is right out your window. For great lamb, the White Lady Hotel and restaurant is right around the corner.
great location

I agree with the reviews; it's a great location with large windows from rooms and the restaurant overlooking an attractive and interesting harbour scene where there's always something happening, from fishing boats landing their catches, herons, pleasure boats and the bobbing seal. If the walk into town is too much, it's easy to drive and park. The rooms are large, clean and quiet, the restaurant is open and attractive and staff very friendly and helpful. The entertainment is jolly in the bar. For breakfast, there's a good choice of quality food. I agree that the evening meals are a little over-hyped but I was impressed by the vegetarian choices. Something of a quibble for me was on the environmental side. No organic options and although the hotel boasts it is 'fairtrade' in brochures I might as well have asked for antelope when I tried it out and asked for a fairtrade wine with my meal. Also, the teas and coffees in the rooms (grateful as we were that there were some) were not fairtrade either. We were told that the coffee served to customers was fairtrade but I'm not sure. I wrote to the hotel after about this but received no response, disappointing. All in all, an enjoyable stay.
Good quality hotel

I had read some good reviews about the Trident and used this as a base for our 1 night stay in Kinsale. Of all the places we had stayed thoughout Kerry and Cork this was the most expensive and I don't think the best value for money. Athough it is very much in line with Kinsale prices. The location is excellent and parking is available. There is a gym but no pool which was disappointing. Room was clean but pretty basic although lovely view of harbour. Noisy start to the morning as a large tanker had docked and was getting unloaded from very early. But it was interesting. I was really looking forward to my gourmet meal in Kinsale and was a bit disappointed with the restaurant. Decor and staff were lovely. Meal just ok. Breakfast was overcooked and they are prompt at clearing away. Meal was also overcharged but it got sorted. Overall hotel was fine though I was a bit disappointed as it was the most expensive I was expecting the best. However I would stay again and I would recommend it to others.
Great Location and Hotel!

We recently spent a night at the Trident Hotel, and had a really great experience. The hotel is located right on the water and has a beautiful view, if you can book a room on that side of the hotel.
The rooms were a bit small, but newly decorated and VERY clean. The staff was friendly and they have a nice bar and restaurant with live music. The breakfast wasn't the best we had in Ireland, but definitely not all that bad. The restaurant where they served breakfast overlooks the harbor and is a beautiful view.
The hotel is also within walking distance to the town, which is awesome. Kinsale is full of shops, pubs, and right on the waterfront where you will see lots of sail boats. Definitely a great place to visit.
Great hotel, great location
by TripAdvisor Member dcloonan
The room was great, big bed, plenty of storage and space. The breakfast is as good as it gets. Parking was a little difficult in the hotel carpark but there is on-road parking nearby. Location was fantastic, on the water with fabulous views, just a short walk from the town centre. Only negative was the lack of a swimming pool and the gym wasn't appealing. Other than that, would definitely go back

Lovely hotel & Views (shame there's no pool)!
by TripAdvisor Member Caz'n'kel
We stayed here for a couple of nights at the beginning of November 2006 and had a lovely stay. We choose one of the superior rooms with a seaview and it was excellently decorated and provided everything we needed (except a shaver socket in the bathroom!). We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meals and the standard of food was excellent. The only downside i would say with the hotel is that it doesn't have a pool., the staff are very friendly and helpful. Kinsale has some lovely walks and whilst we were here we walked out to Charles Fort which was about a 45 min walk and the views back towards Kinsale are well worth the walk. If you go in the summer time another must would be to go on the boat trip around the harbour (we've done this previously - it wasn't running this time we went).
Modern hotel directly on harbor
by TripAdvisor Member ShamPillow
New looking, modern hotel situated right on the Kinsale Harbor. Excellent views from both the standard rooms and the executive rooms. One couple in our party stayed in an executive room for 40 euros more, while we stayed in a standard room. Honestly, we thought our room was better. We had views from two walls of windows out into the harbor below. Here are the pros and cons:
PROS: Plenty of windows to enjoy the views of the harbor; Amazing views; Very nice and clean bathroom; Super service; Very friendly front desk staff; Free use of gym downstairs; Complementary newspaper in the morning
CONS: Flies in the room since the windows were open; Below average breakfast; Bad service in restaurant for breakfast
We rated this hotel a 4.5 out of 5.
Kinsale Golf & Gourmet
by TripAdvisor Member lovegolftravel
Our group did a golf vacation in Ireland this past Summer. We had a ball. Kinsale was great and the Trident was perfect for us. The hotel is located in town with a good bar and very good food. Rooms were especially nice and overlooked the harbour. We used the services of Links Golf Ireland to arrange our trip and played Old Head while staying at the Trident Hotel for 2 nghts. We will be going back to Ireland again and will stay in Kinsale at the trident for sure. The breakfast will ensure you dont go hungry all day and you will need some form of exercise to burn the calories from the Gubeen cheese.
