  • Since Dublin was our first major city, it was also our first expierience in living at a hostel. it was interesting as we shared a 12 bed room. we were fortunate we had the upper loft which had 4 beds, 2 on each side of the room.

breakfast offered a muffin, a banana, and a drink (oj or coffee). it was ok, but got kinda blah after awhile. there are pool tables, and several TVs. interenet is available, at a price of course. lockers for storing your packs. one of the nice bonuses is that it's very near the downtown. so, it's good "stumbing" distance and there are good jumping points to starts your adventure. and most of the staff is pretty cool. which is nice for someone visiting a new country.

  • Once again, I didn't stay at this hostel, but one of my friend did it and I went to see her there, so I hung out a while with other people in the hostel and got the chance to see how it was like. There was a great international atmosphere, it was clean, staff was friendly, etc. All the people I talked to liked the place. The prices are similar to the other Dublin hostels, and include continental breakfast. Check out the website for more details.

As for the other two hostels I included in my tips, Avalon House is situated in the city centre, five minutes walking to Temple Bar and Grafton St.

  • Stayed at Avalon House in October for three days. I can say that my stay was average.
Its location is ideal. Just outside the Temple Bar district it's quiet and laid back.
Dorms are clean, shared bathrooms could be cleaner.
    Free Internet and free wi-fi.
The staff seem to be the problem, i checked in with my girlfriend and we were not told that we had to move rooms during our stay, so we had gone out for the day to Cork and came back to find our stuff was no longer in our room, and that it had been thrown in a closet! Clothes scattered everywhere!
We were angry to say the least and demanded an explaination. We were given some awful excuse that the girl on reception was new and didn't know what she was doing!
So we had to go and pack our clothes up and move to the room next door to where we were!!! How pathetic! They could have left us in our room and moved the other people into that room. They didn't seem to know how to run a hostel.

    On the plus side
its located well. Bus stop outside
Free breakfast is good, toast, fruit, orange juice.

Overall, i would try to find alternative accommodation in Dublin in future.

  • Having stayed in quite a few hostels, i would say this isn't much different from the norm... but it is clean and friendly, and you do get free internet and a free breakfast - which i slept through today, so can't tell you how good it is! There's a decent tv room with good sofas, and another video room downstairs, and a huge kitchen... We're in a twin room, and it is petite, but cozy enough... only thing i think it misses is somewhere to put your stuff... there are a few hooks, but there's not really a real place to put your bags. But i guess that's not a huge deal for the rest of the stuff you get... like your own sink...

We're not right in Temple Bar, which is what i would call central to a visit to Dublin, but it is well located, and only a short walk to practically anything. The other bonus is there's a bus direct from the airport that drops you off just over the street, for only 1.80 Euros each way... not bad at all!!! (That's 16A for ref and goes right down O'Connel St too!)
