Choosing a hotel

It used to be when I traveled around, I was more carefree, I planned very little and it was all new. For hotels, I would usually roll into town on a train and get some assistance from a tourist information office near the station. For Dublin, I arrived via ferry and when I did find the small train station, I didn’t find the tourist information office. But the center of Dublin is fairly compact, so I started to wander around looking for hotels on my own. As I started my second lap, still not having found the tourist information office (or many hotels), I ran across the Avondale. Having worked at a similarly named motel for a time I thought that this would do fine for a night and besides my bag was getting heavy (wheels on luggage not having been invented yet). Fortunately, it was for only one night and you don’t spend much time in the room anyway but I found that picking a hotel based on sentimental reasons is a poor technique. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead or at least find where the tourist information office is located.
