A short stroll to O'Connell Street
by sangietair about Best Western Academy Plaza Hotel
When we booked this hotel it was undergoing some refurbishments. We were told this would be completed before our stay. It turned out that this was not the case. The front of the hotel looked like a building site. The entrance was through a temporary side door.
There were no amenities available that were promised. The hotel manager kindly reduced the cost of our stay by 130E. We were also upgraded to a slightly larger room facing a main street to the back of the Hotel. We hired a car for two days and we were allowed to park in the back of the hotel at no extra cost. Under normal circumstances we would have had to park the car across the road in a car park.
I think it will be more welcoming once the work is completed and well done to all the staff who had to work and keep a smile under difficult circumstances. They did a very good job in making our stay as pleasant and undisturbed as possible.
Breakfast was included with a great selection of choice, from contineltal to traditional irish breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast time! Once the renovation is completed, there will be a games room and fitness suite available. A new cosmopolitan style lounge bar which will play host to live music every day. Hmmm...!!!!
The views from the room were not all that great, but were a lot better than what we were given previously.
You Can't Beat the Location
by TripAdvisor Member Steve037
The Best Western Academy Plaza Hotel is "neat and clean and well advised," as they say, and you simply cannot beat the location -- one minute from O'Connel Street in City Centre -- especially if you're here to see Dublin for just a few days (we were there for four days) . Our room was small, but certainly large enough for two adults, well appointed, and quite comfortable. The folks at reception were as helpful as they could be, but when they don't have a bus schedule at the hotel, there's a real limlit to what they can do in some cases. The TV set in our room operated independently of the guests' wishes, turning itself on and adjusting its volume at will. The phone never did work during the visit. There were no directions for either available in our room. When informed of the problems, reception immediately offered a room move and after some email prompting, arranged to credit my account for E25. You can't buy a simple breakfast at the hotel, only the dreaded E20 Irish breakfast. Once we returned home, I emailed the hotel asking the name of the COI church just outside the door on Findlater Place. The answer came back "Findlater Church." Wrong. I later learned that the sign (20 feet from the front desk) identifies it as the Parish Church of St George and St Thomas. In sum, it's best to say that there are some issues still to be worked out, and when they are, the Academy Plaza will fulfill its considerable potential. Meanwhile, keep management apprised so it can ensure corrective action is taken and additude adjustment is made as needed.
Excellent Hotel

The hotel is ideal for staying in Dublin which is just off O'connell Street, North of the River Liffy. I was celebrating my 40th birthday with my partner, and family. This hotel is very clean, modern, well run and the staff are friendly. Good value for money, I did not like the breakfast however, as I felt cramped in the restaurant. but for the price really not bad. My shower was cold on my birthday but this may have been because it was 10.30am, they said it was the whole hotel but nothing was done about it.
I would recommend staying here and I would stay here again myself.
God for one night

I stayed here with a few Friends as i was going to a concert in Dublin. The hotel was clean and the food was gorgeous in the restaurant. The staff were ok not the friendlist. For one night it was ok i found it expensive for what i got and the bar closed early and they do not have residents bar Available which ended my night of fun very Quickly. Its ok for one night but i would not want to spend a week here.
Fantastic hotel

We stayed there for the weekend, it was lovely. Our room was in the new wing of the hotel and the room was lovely. Lovely big room, massive bed, lovely new bathroom.
The hotel is just off o'connell street which is the crntre of Dublin town. You can walk everywhere and its not to far to stagger home.
Will use this hotel on my next visit. Check in is not till 14.30 but you can store your bags and go off.
We did the tour bus which was 14 euros and headed to Temple bar for a very late night. Beware food and drinks are very expensive (same as London) In the morning we had breakfast at the hotel for 12 euros, our plates were full of hangover food and we went up again!!
Que for whats left at breakfast!

Room was okay for price, Stayed 15th to 17th of Feb 2008. Breakfast room was overcrowded, but got a seat at 9.30am,
Head of breakfast room asked us for tea or coffee and never returned. We recieved this eventually 35 mins later after flagging every and any server.
Very poor breakfast offering in self help area most of which was missing....after a long que. Walking away from this disaster noticed long que for people waiting to be seated ... for such a good hotel charging large prices compared to europe, that's a bit steep.
Wrote a letter on this and handed it into reception, and was given an instant sorry ... but it was because of "the large volume of people at the hotel". Well why dont you have a better breakfast area ??? Pity that a 200 + room hotel 3 star plus can't have an adequate breakfast area properly stocked ... sorry Dublin your expensive excuses should at least be properly addressed.... for the customer experience.

Stayed here for St Pat's and still can't believe it was actually a nice hotel for what we paid. The location is ridiculously close to the Airlink Bus stop, making airport transfer brainless (and only 6 euro). Less than a block from O'Connell street, which is mostly full of Burger Kings and gift shops, but easily within walking distance of Grafton Street, Trinity College, Saint Stephen's Green.
The lobby was large with comfortable couches, a good meeting place for our large group. We didn't sample the breakfast, but my brothers had a good time at the bar, with a friendly bartender.
The room was spotless, and the bedding incredibly comfortable. There was combination body-wash-shampoo in the shower rather than soap and shampoo, so I wish I had brought my own.
Would definitely stay again.
