Comfortable hotel near Merrion Square

One of the O'Callaghan hotels in Dublin, this was the nicest hotel I had on my journey through Ireland. It's located just off Merrion Square, I found I could easily walk to the center of Dublin in 10-15 minutes. The Air Coach stops about 1/2 block away, the Pearse DART station was a 5 minute walk and there was a Dublin HOHO bus stop a block away. I never heard any noise at night, it's a quiet section of town.

There was free internet in the lobby but the computer always had someone on it so I asked if there was somewhere close by I could use the internet and they pointed me to the 5th floor business center which was also free.

I booked the hotel on Orbitz for $92US (not Euro) per night including taxes, a pretty good rate for the summer months. Breakfast was not included in the rate.

Unique Quality: Room-the bed was very comfortable king bed and the room quite spacious. There was tea service, a room safe, ironing board, TV and a keyboard for a laptop.

Bathroom-plenty of hot water, decent towels, hair dryer, shower/tub combo. Toiletries included shampoo, soap, bath gel and lotion.

Nice classy Hotel

Good older, but quite nice, 4 star, hotel. It is in a good location. The price was right, through Terry Flynn Tours of Waterford.

Davenport for Lunch

The restaurant in the Davenport Hotel Merrion Square is an excellent venue for lunch. You can expect to pay about 20-25 euro per person for a starter, main course and coffee. This is a very good venue for either a business lunch or perhaps a more than soup and sandwich lunch. The lunch menue is restricted to 5 starters and 5 mains but is very well presented and cooked to perfection

The hotel also has a bar food menue available in the main lounge where they serve Panini's, salads etc.

The setting is an old Methodist Church hall and the hotel has been tastefully developed retaining many of the period features of the old hall Somked Salmon starter with Chicken wrapped in bacon as main meal on the day I was there and both were excellent. There are vegetarian options available.

The Ginger Man

A great little pub on Fenian Street behind the Davenport Hotel. Traditional Irish Pub on the interior with a nice front patio seating section. I stumbled in for a brief lunch and a pint of cider finding hospitality and relaxation. It was bustling with locals, students, and professionals so wound up sharing a table with a couple locals. Service was decent speed and friendly while I was there, but I heard that once packed it can get slow. I sat out in the front outdoor patio as it was a nice day. The Shepherd's Pie I ordered was quite tasty. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

You just have to love this hotel

After looking at the reviews of other guests I have chosen The Davenport Hotel. I have assigned it the maximum number of points, because the hotel and its staff fulfill all the criteria expected by a guest on a short weekend trip to Dublin.

Rooms are cosy and nicely furnished, large enough and have very comfy beds.
Minor inconveniences are separate taps for hot and cold water and windows that can not be fully opened. Hotel staff is very friendly and courteous.
Despite the fact that I have arrived to Dublin very early in the morning, I was provided with a room already at 9AM. In the hotel they have a very nicely designed dining room where you may treat yourself to a continental or a traditional Irish breakfast that includes beans and black pudding; and also a bar where you may enjoy an evening cocktail after an exhausting day.

The Hotel itself is located in a very nice and peaceful area, yet it is only 10 minutes walk away from the Grafton Street, a popular shopping destination with other sights located in the city centre, (Trinity College etc.) also nearby.

By the hotel there is a very nice traditional pub, where you may peacefully enjoy your lunch and a glass of bear without the annoying hordes of English tourists.

I most definitely recommend this hotel, which in my opinion has the best quality/price ratio in the whole of Dublin.

Almost perfect

Four of us stayed three nights at the davenport, booked in may so gave plenty of notice that we required non smoking rooms, on arrival we were placed in smoking rooms. My parents were lucky and were able to change rooms straight away, myself and my husband had to wait until a non smoking room was free the next day before we could move and was i ready to move! we spent all night breathing in stale smoke and because our break was only for three nights it was a pain having to pack and move again. That really was the only niggle i had about the hotel, rooms are spotless and the bathroom was immaculately clean which makes all the difference i think. Breakfast was buffet style so you could have as little or as much of it as you wanted, the food was of a high standard and again the breakfast room was spotless. We never ate in the hotel at night so i can't
comment but i guess it must have been to a high standard. The davenport is a restful hotel and peace and relaxation are order of the day so if you are looking for music and entertainment this hotel is not for you.

We really enjoyed the Davenport over a 3 day stay. Great room at a great price and an awesome location. The little pub on the side can get a little loud on weekends but otherwise the Davenport is great!

Good choice

Having been with the Davenport from Sep 2nd-4th I was positivly surrprised. Any experiences with Hotels in Great Britain ended so far with the conclusion: The relation 'value for money' is just bad (to be polite)
The Davenport is a positive exception. For € 130.- per night
(excl. breakfast) it is an claen and functional hotel. The rooms are well sized, it's calm and within walking distance to the major attractions.
There is easy accsess to public transport.
Located nearby but not in the very city center gives you the tranquility you want if you know how busy Dublin is.
Nor even 10 min walking (along the Trinity College) takes you to the heart of the city.
This Hotel can be recommended without a doubt.

Lovely hotel - full of character.
Rooms were large enough. Location is excellent. Cannot fault hotel.

I will definetely be back here again...
