Smoking.

Basically, you can't smoke in any 'workplace'. So that includes pubs, cafes and restaurants. Some pubs have set up smoking areas outside, and you can smoke at cafe tables on the pavement. I liked the 'smoking station' at Galway airport (see photo).
I don't know if this will last but,

A rather strange thing has happened near the Spanish arch in Galway. A very smart and well made plaque has appeared on a wall proclaiming the founding of the GDR - the Galway Democratic Republic. I strongly suspect that it is an art school stunt of some kind. The GDR seems to be absent from the internet or anywhere else. The 'prank' status is comfirmed by the tiny line at the bottom of the plaque that says it was erected with the co-oeration of the "Society for Historical Interpretation, Trusteeship and Education”. I will leave you work out what the acroymn reads.
Whatever the source, I hope the local council planning department have enough of a sense of humour to leave it in place.
Trendy Establishment!

Huge Nightclub with loads of bars and lots of staff. Its not the type of spot I would go to on a regular basis. It has a huge smoking area (and this is the place to pick up women!). Again it gets packed so get there early! The music is good too! Smart casual
The Clay Oven

This is a superb Indian restaurant with very good service, very good menu, not very pricey and excellent atmosphere.
If you're in the mood for Indian cuisine, there is no other place in Galway that fits the bill better than this jewel. Chicken kashmiri
St Nicholas Church
by lina112
The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas, a 4th century Bishop of Myra in Lycia. Although he is best know today as the patron sanit of children or "Santa Claus", during the middle ages he was more commonly revered as the patron saint of sailors.
Christopher Columbus almost certainly worshipped here in 1477, and may well have been inspired by tales of St. Brendan the Navigator, an Irish monk who is believed to have sailed to America in the 6th century.
