Caravan Park

by denlon

Can any one recommend a park for a touring caravan near Galway City .
My wife and myself intend spending a week or so with a touring caravan in Galway in June of this year.

Is the Ballyloughane Park the only one there ?

Travel Tips for Galway

a hard life in former times

by globetrott

For us the area is a great landscape - but for people, who were forced to live there, and who had no chance to earn a living or grow their own vegetables, it was a hard living many of the houses were left lateron and the inhabitants emmigrated to America

I can't stand tile shops. I get dragged around them by the ear by my wife.

"Wouldn't that look nice in our bathroom ? " she says

"Hallie Berry in a bath of custard would look good in my bathroom"

"You have no chance".. etc, etc ad nauseum.

The Rocca tile shop on the Tuam Road as you exit Galway does however have one redeeming feature : they have bought a fine statue that stands in the showroom of 'a Tiler'.

According to the guidebooks...

According to the guidebooks the area of Dominic Street is where the locals hang andQuay Street is where the tourists go. Kinda sorta true. You should try the pubs on both sides of the river.
Here are some to try:
Roisin Dubh
King's Head
The Quays
The Front Door
McSwiggans real casual.

Just by chance, we wandered into Brasserie 11 which is right down this Galway City street (on the left). It served wonderful food and had lovely, friendly service. I think it's no longer there.. what a shame.

Eyre Square

The center square of Galway is next to the bus and train stations. It contains a few sculptures, but (although it’s praised by all the guide books) for the most part it is just a grassy area that people take a break and relax.
