Has anyone stayed at the Lodges at Shannon Oaks?

by rnickell

My friends and I have booked accommodations at the Lodges at Shannon Oaks near Galway for early November 2007. Has anyone stayed there before? The website lists that it is in Portumna, is that relatively close to Galway?

Thanks!

Portumna is about 50 miles fom galway city and you will find it about an hour to an hour and three quarters journey time by car into the city centre. There will be no public transport so you will have to drive. The journey is along quietish roads through fairly pleasant countryside for most of the way. The only big town along the way is Loughrea and there is a bypass around it now, which helps.
Shannon Oaks is probably the best hotel in town and there are a lot of weddings held there. They have spa treatments etc there which might be nice.
Portumna is tourist town itself now with a big attraction being the Shannon and all the water sports associated with it. Other that thatit is a quiet rural town.

Thank you so much for the reply. We found them online, and just wondered if it was as nice as the website. We're looking forward to staying there.

Thanks again!

Travel Tips for Galway

Heavy money 2001

by sabsi

These guys put too many coins in their container and had forgotten that there are a few steps in front of the bank they wanted to bring the container into at Galway's Eyre Square!!! Very funny to watch! Maybe it's good that the Euro coins aren't as big and heavy as the Irish punts were!!!

If you're staying in or around...

by Anisha1

If you're staying in or around Galway city, it is worth while taking a day's drive to OughtarArd and Cliften. OughtarArd, a colourful Irish town, is situated on the banks of the Corrib lake, and there are plenty of gillies and boats for hire for a great day's fishing. It is a little like being out on the open sea so make sure you bring warm clothes.

Large, Modern Bar

by Jennyjump79 about Monroe's

The two singers I heard here both played a few trad ballads, but most of the music was acoustic rock. The crowd was friend, mostly local and a nice mix of ages and the bar itself had a nice, atmosphere. People seem to come here for the pizza, and it looked and smelled really good. I had come for the music, and was not disappointed either. None

The Goddess Rules!

by Krumlovgirl about The River Goddess

We first decided to try this place because of the advertisement out front. They had a "tourist menu" for 20 euros that included a soup, entree, dessert, and beverage and we were in the mood to splurge. Oh, but it was great. And the atmosphere was terrific. Very other-worldly. I had a penne in cream sauce, garnished with fresh mussels. My friend had the chicken dish and both of us had a creamy, dill tomatoe soup. Everything was wonderful.

Arctic landscape in Ireland???

by DaniBachmann

the Barren is a unique area in Ireland- looks a bit like you're on the moon, but if you have a closer look, you can find a wide variety of plants.
We went there on a bus trip that also included Pulnabrome( ?) Dolmen.
