Camping: Camping

There is a small camping ground on Inis Mor and you are advised to use this site rather than camping independently. The locals are not as open on Inis Mor as on the other Aran Islands to people camping randomly on their land ;)
The camp site is located about 10 minutes cycle from Kilronan along the northern road towards Kilmurvy. There are toilet facilities on site but no showers and the cost is €2 euro per person per night.
To reach the site follow the road to Kilmurvy and turn right when you come to Joe Watty’s Pub. The camp site is approx 1km down this road in a small field on the left.

Kilmurvey House: A Beautiful Historic House

After two days of travel to get from Montana to this - our first real desitination in Ireland - I was exhausted. To be greeted by the ever energetic Treasa and to collapse in one of the cleanest rooms I've ever seen was wonderful!

Dinner is available for 30 euro per person. Quite steep once you convert it but an option if you really want a meal without making your way back into Kilronan. We got sandwiches at the only restaurant nearby.

This 1700's house has a personality of its own and shares ground with a 5th century church. The views from the south side of the house are magnificent and the close proximity of some of the ancient sites on the island makes it a great choice.

Breakfast was continental style and included a choice from the menu including eggs and a full Irish breakfast (8 euro). I had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon - heavenly. Other guests there were friendly, while I waited for my friend to come fown for breakfast, Treasa brought a basket of warm scones fresh from the oven while we chatted.

Another VTer mentioned having to pay for breakfast here - only the full Irish Breakfast costs an extra 8 euro and when we were there that was clearly marked in the menu.

Kilronan Hostel: Cheap and convenient

The Kilronan Hostel is an excellent place to stay if you are on a budget. Or want to find other people to have fun with. My boyfriend and I got a package deal through the aranislandferries storefront in Galway for r/t tickets plus 1 night stay on Inis Mor for 30 per person (in mid-May). Which sounded like a pretty good deal to us. The 6 bunk room was tight, but no more so than any other standard hostel. Toilet and shower was attached to our room, so no tiptoe-ing through the hallways at night. The kitchen and tv room is next door to the main hostel building. There's a decent selection of dvd's to choose from, which is great if it's pouring buckets and you don't feel like being moist. The place had a very laid-back atmosphere, and the sitting area outside the kitchen was a nice spot to relax and enjoy the sun.

Extremely close to the pier! You'll see the green building at once. Pub right next door to the hostel. Beware of drunken late-night singing. Might be very pretty, but hard to sleep through. View of the water is a plus.

The Man of Aran Cottages: Fairy tale cottage on Inis Mor

We were told of this place by a person on the Internet who goes there when ever she is in Ireland. The cottage was cozy and clean rooms ( alittle far from the dock) but we had a mini-bus driver who dropped us of there. The rooms are right off the main dining area, but the owners were great about not letting anyone come into the area if they were not staying there. The breakfast was one of the best in Ireland. I would recomment this B&B to everyone

The views are beautiful and the cottage is like going back in time

Kilmurvey House: A large B&B near Dun Aengus

This is a popular bed and breakfast located near Dun Aengus and some rooms have a great view of the fort and the ocean. The rooms are fairly large and are ensuite. There is a common room with a large TV, but there was no TV in our room. Dinner is available, but it is pretty expensive. Despite it’s name, it really doesn’t feel like a B & B. It contains many rooms and because of that, personal contact with the owner is minimal. Although you get a basic breakfast for free, be careful because if you order from their breakfast menu, you will be charged an additional 8 euro (per person). I thought that it was a little dishonest of the hosts to just come up to your table and say “what is your order” without mentioning that it costs extra. Since typically in bed and breakfasts, the breakfast doesn’t cost extra.

Hostel: NEXT TO THE HARBOUR

The room was clean with modern furniture and ensuite bathroom (I think). In this hostel breakfast was included in the price and was served from 8.00 onwards. As our ferry left at 9.00, we were at the kitchen door 8.00 sharp, but it was locked. We waited until 8.30 when a man finally came to open it. He looked like he had been drinking in the previous night and was probably suffering from the hangover. We had to prepare the breakfast ourselves, which meant a lot of queuing and it meant that we didn't have time to enjoy our breakfast at all. We had a bowl of cereal, two slices of toast and a cup of coffee. Usually when the breakfast is included in the price, it means ready made portions, because otherwise everybody would eat lots and lots, but in Inis Mor you were allowed to eat as much as you wanted.

We had some "entertainment" in the hostel too! In the middle of the night we woke up, when the fire alarm went on. At first we didn't know what it was and went to the hall, where all the other guests were, too. Finally we were told that somebody has broken the glass of the fire alarm and we could go back to sleep. To my surprise there was no panic of any kind and everybody stayed calm.

Ard Mhuiris: A nice B&B

Friendly B&B close to Kilronan pier. 20 IEP per person sharing in summer 2001. Nice breakfasts .... we ate way too many eggs here. Very friendly hosts, nice ensuite rooms.

I took a few nice long naps here coz I was a little sick. It was nice to be woken up by Colm who did a bicycle tour and brought back drinks and medicine :-)
