More about Milestone House
Will be returning soon!
My husband and I went for a (too short) break to Dingle peninsula from London and found it hard to leave! Michael and Barbara were so fantastic and helpful that made us very "at home" in their B&B. The weather was not on our side this time but we'll be returning there soon! Thanks to Barbara's suggestions, we saw the main celtic ruins along the most amazing coast, had delicious seafood in a restaurant called the Ashes in Dingle Town and slept like logs thanks to the clean air! Definetely recommend it to anyone - the breakfast is delicious too and the smell of freshly baked soda break makes you want to wake up!
Best B&B we've ever visited!
We stayed at Milestone for 5 nights in mid-June of 2006 and simply couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Located just a 15-minute walk from Dingle, it's well situated away from the noise of town and gives you a head start to the beautiful Slea Head Loop drive.
Michael and Barbara O'Connell were incredible hosts at Milestone B&B, their very welcoming, comfortable, and spacious home with nice views of Connor Pass and the Dingle harbor. Most impressionable was their knowledge of the area, especially their helpful directions, advice on secret spots to visit, and various tips for food and pints along our daily routes. They steered us from the crowded tourist sights we wanted to avoid, making sure our day trips were very special and packed with memorable visits to lesser known sights, all the while answering every question in detail. Every tip they gave us proved to be perfectly suited to our taste - a talent we've never encountered during any of our numerous stays at B&Bs! Also of note, when a more spacious, upstairs room opened up on our second day, they upgraded us and even moved our stuff upstairs!
The breakfast was outstanding - more variety than I've had in a long time at a B&B! We had 4 types of juice to choose from, along with coffee and tea. There were 3 fruit salads, 4 kinds of cereal, yoghurt, and Michael's delicious soda bread (with butter, marmalade and jam). Then came the hot breakfast - your choice of eggs, toast, tomato, bacon, sausage, black and/or white pudding, and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Yum! Everything was perfectly cooked and consistent during our stay.
We highly recommend this B&B to anyone who TRULY wants to experience Ireland. Dingle is the only place to go in Ireland, as far as we're concerned, and the Milestone makes the perfect base for exploring the area. Milestone B&B exemplifies the friendly, laid-back, and sincere attitude of everyone we met in Ireland. When we go back, we'll focus our entire stay at Milestone in Dingle!

Couldn't have been better!
The Milestone House is such a wonderful B&B. When we were about an hour away from Dingle, I telephoned Barbara so she would know when to expect us. She told me there was a concert in town that evening and we would arrive just in time to catch a quick dinner and then attend the concert. I told her that sounded great and we would see her soon. Once we arrived, she said there was a restaurant near the church where the concert was being held, and she had already called to insure they could accomodate us in a timely fashion prior to the concert. She us made reservations for both the dinner and concert, and we were on our way! What a great start to our stay! This is just a small example of the accomodating and friendly assistance we enjoyed and apreciated during our stay.
Each evening Barbara made dinner suggestions, which were always excellent. Her touring advice was outstanding. Upon our departure Michael assisted us with mapping our route and planning the drive to our next two destinations (Galway and then Portrush).
We had a family room with one double and two twin beds, which slept our family of four quite comfortably. The room was clean and fresh with a beautiful view of the bay. The breakfasts were consistently delicious and provided several options.
I can't say enough about the Milestone House B&B and the hospitality Barbara and Michael shared. This is definetly the place to stay while in Dingle!
extremely hospitable host and hostess
This bed and breakast already has a lot of wonderful and well-deserved reviews. I agree with most of what I have read...
While the facilities were quite comfortable (and very clean) for our family of 4 (stayed in the family room - quite spacious), the real stand out at this establishment are the lovely and welcoming owners, the Carrolls.
Barbara went out of her way to make sure we knew the sights to see in Dingle and helped plan out our tour so we wouldnt' waste our time in Dingle trying to figure everything out ourselves! Her husband drove us into town one night, so we could have a beer or two and take a taxi back and not have to bother with our car.
They go the extra mile at the milestone house, if you pardon the pun.
They are a 10 minute walk into the town and have a lovely location overlooking the bay.
This B&B was the absolute best one that we experienced in Ireland. The amenities and service were better than any of the other seven B&B's we stayed in (and none of them were bad).
The host, Michael, sat us down for tea and after he found out what types of things interested us, he gave us a personalized map of what we would like to see, experience and where to dine. The breakfast was the best we experienced on our trip and the overall experience was worth 5 stars plus!!
The Milestone... a wonderful oasis in a beautiful land.
The host and hostess were as nice and helpful as anyone could ever expect. They obviously love what they do. It was wonderful to have people so accomodating. Our group was pressed for time, and they gave us insight on the wonderful things to see and do. They even called to make our reservations. They sat us down and talked in an unhurried way, offering tea and coffee to make us feel at home. The residence is clean and comfortable. The breakfast was nothing short of great. I can't stress enough how they made us feel at home.
Loved the friendly people
This B&B was very clean, The food served was more than we could eat, and delicious. The owners very friendly. I would suggest before booking to check to make sure Credit Cards are taken for the total stay, or Cash whichever the guests wish, otherwise a good pick
A+ in Hospitality
We were warmly greeted by the hostess, Barbara, upon our arrival to the Milestone House. After we brought in our luggage, cookies and coffee awaited us as we began to relax in this wonderful B& B.
Barbara brought in a map of Dingle and began to show us all of the things available to see and do in and around Dingle. She thoughtfully mentioned sights our 13 and 16 year old might like to see as we toured for two days.
When asked about dining, Barbara made some recommendations of places where she likes to eat in town. She even went so far as to make a reservation for us, so that we would not flounder in our search for dinner our first evening.
Michael popped in as Barbara was giving us some tips on the area and offered a few of his own. Both are pleasant, friendly and helpful hosts in this very comfortable B&B.
The Milestone is on the edge of town, but so very convenient to getting around to everything you'd want to see and do. Truly, Dingle is well worth a minimum of a two-day stay. We would even recommend 3 days if you can plan that many into your schedule.
You will want to plan the Slea Head Drive into your touring while in Dingle. When you see write ups that say you'll see incredible views...believe them. We did! Having visited Ireland 15 years ago, we decided to do the entrie Slea Head Drive instead of the entire Ring of Kerry. We were not disappointed.
The megalithic graves and early Christian settlements you'll see as you make your way around Slea Head, will fascinate you. Do be prepared to pay a few euros at each stop. We did not stop every time you could, we picked those sights we most wanted to see.
We never got to see Fungie, the area celebrity dolphin. If we had stayed another day, we would have pushed to have gone out in a boat, or at the very least watched for the hillsides. Both are easy to do there. Again, there is much to do in Dingle!
The Milestone was one of the best B&B's that we stayed in while in Ireland. We did pay cash for our stay, which we found to be the norm for all but one of the B&B's we stayed in. Quite often the owners pay staff (those helping to clean laundry and rooms) directly in cash. Though it would have been easier to have charged most of our stay, banks (atm machines) were always readily available. Just be prepared up front for what each B&B requires so that you know how you will need to pay at the end of each stay.
All in all, our stay at the Milestone was comfortable and we could not have asked for a better location in Dingle. The food was yummy. Don't be bashful in asking for a variation to the full Irish breakfast if you cannot eat the full one provided. Barbara and Michael are very accomodating. Enjoy Dingle....the people, the food and the wonderful sights!

Great Gem on the Coast of Ireland.
Great location - just a few minutes from city center.
Hosts were pleasant and very helpful in planning our time there. Room was nice. Breakfast was good. I wouldn't change a thing.
5 star service. Highly recommended.
Warm and wonderful
I 'd like to begin by thanking Barbara and Michael for being the most gracious of hosts., the rooms were very pretty and clean! The breakfast was extra tasty and every plate was a little work of art, Michaels bread is really that delicous. There was fresh rhubarb from the garden and jam made by Barbara's mother, Ann.
They were kind enough to make us dinner reservations at a great restaurant for our first night since we didn't get in until 800 pm. They were so helpful with maps, directions and suggestions for siteseeing throughout Ireland. They spoiled us for the rest of the B&B's next time I will spend more time in Dingle and with Barbara and Michael. Thank you again!!
