Travel Tips for Killarney

Golf

by healy_ger

There are some great courses in and around Killarney. 3 coursesat Killarney golf & fishing club and the 1 in Beaufort are 18 hole. There are three 9 hole courses in the locality, the Ross, Castleross and the Gap of Dunloe. Wet gear!

Great Steak and seafood

by SabrinaSummerville about G. B. Shaw's

G B Shaw's is the steak and seafood restaurant which was attached to our hotel, the Muckross Park, and to be honest we stayed on an extra nigt to dine here as they close on Monday night.

It was great, but not worth staying on the extra night. I started with the risotto. It was a smoked haddock risotto which I parrticularly chose as I adore haddock. Imagine my disappointment when I was served the porcini mushroom risotto that I ate in the hotel's sister restaurant two nights before. It seems that both hotels have the one manager. I had pointed out to the manager on the first night that the addition of the (unmentioned on the menu) balsamic vinegar to the rice destroyed the delicate falvour of the truffle oil. As a result the Restaurant Manager had decided to serve me with a portion of the first ngihts risotto sans balsamic. It was wonderful, but not what I wanted or had ordered.

This was followed by surf anf turf - and excellent combination of two fillet steaks and half a dozen superb prawns. I loved every morsel.

Dessert isd a speciality of Head Waiter Emmanuel, where he prepares crepes suzette flambeed at your table. Wonderful.

Gap of Dunloe/Ladies view

by carolineos

If you can hire a car or a bike, you should tkae a trip through the Gap of Dunlow, stopping to enjoy the view of the Tomies and Purple mountains on the left and the McGillycuddy Reeks in the right from Ladies view. You can also walk it or get a jaunting cart.

What the coach tours show you

by orlikins

In these areas, you will come across more American and German bus tours than you can shake a stick at. The coach tours usually take around the scenic Ring of Kerry, Gap of Dunloe (just a valley, I think it's a bit overrated) and Ladies View (cant see the atttaction there myself, its a mountain valley and I've seen better)

Lakes of Killarney

by Rita_

"Killarney - Ireland's most vibrant town"

"The mystic beauty of Killarney's Lakes ..."

The three main lakes of Killarney occupy a broad valley stretching south between the mountains.

The lakes and the mountains that surround them are all within the Killarney National Park.

The three lakes are known as the Upper Lake, Muckross Lake (Middle Lake) and Lough Leane (Lower Lake).

"Torc waterfall"

Torc waterfall is one of many in the Killarney area, but is certainly the most famous. The roar of the falls can be heard long before you see them.
Torc has an atmosphere that makes it special; it is quite small, but even among waterfalls, size isn't everything! ;-)

A: "One-hour bus ride would probably be easiest as I don't think there is a train. Check http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1214926849-279k.pdf"
