Any laundromats?

by Wrangler2

Hi there,
We're going to Ireland for a couple of weeks. We want to pack light, so we're wondering if there are places to do laundry in Killarney. We'll have been out on the road for about a week, so we'll need a place by then. Any ideas?

Definetly a laudromat.
I remember passing one near the Sugan Hostel in the middle of town.

Plus, if your going to be hostelling, most of the major hostels have some sort of laudry service. Some of the Country-Home B&Bs can also do laudry for you.

I'm not a huge fan of the "Lets Go" series, but one aspect I really liked was that they list laudry facilities for every town. Comes in really handy sometimes.

I'll have to try and find the one near the Sugan Hostel, as I went looking for a laundromat in Killarney in April and could only find two laundries where you drop off your items, someone does the washing for you, and you pick it up later. As the cost was high (16 euros per load, I think), we decided to forgo the opportunity.

A View Fit For A Lady

by scottishvisitor

The truely natural setting of Killarney & the beauties that surround her. Queen Victoria's Ladies in Waiting were taken to see this special place & I do think they would have been amused if not delighted with the stunning view. The simplistic nature & wonderful hue of colours which only raw beauty can conjure.

Get those climbing boots on!

After walking past Dinis you will arrive at a car park on the main road. Cross the road and get climbing up that mountain. Follow the path along the stream. On a clear day you'll witness some breath-taking views. The picture below shows Torc from the lake shore.

Gap of Dunloe

by RickinDutch

Beautiful spot to hike up to or take a horse drawn cart. Parking available at a cosy pub/restaurant by the name Kate Kearney's Cottage. My cousin was driving and he ended up driving up to the Gap and beyond. After the pub the road narrows to a one lane/one way affair so use caution as oncoming traffic cannot get past you in most spots. Small alpine-like lakes and narrow bridges in a steep sided treeless valley. It's about four miles to the Gap. You can walk or take a jaunting car (or drive if you have a fearless Irish cousin).

The land beyond the gap was a magical glimpse into old Ireland where we ended up lost for a few hours trying to find the way back to the main highway.

Torc waterfall

Torc waterfall is a cute little waterfall in the Killarney National Park. While not big by any stretch of an imagination, it is nevertheless a very pretty place. Climb up the trail along it, or jump in the water at the base and cool off. You'll go by it if you're hiking the Kerry Way or you can get there by car, as the road passes nearby. Unfortunately, it can get pretty crowded there during the tourist season.

Killarney

After getting off the train at the station in Killarney I called a hostel and they offered to come and pick me up. While waiting for the car I met two american guys who also needed a place to stay, so when my car came they jumped in too. One of them was a journalist writing about the restaurants and pubs of Killarney and I ended up tagging along with them that night. So great! He just had to show his journalist card and we got free beer everywhere! (I need to get such a card for myself!) The countryside around Killarney is so beautiful; there's the national park, the Macgillycuddy Reeks, the lakes and lots more.
