Lough Leanne
by Deefstes
People, this is the place! Try to go to Lough Leanne to see the sun setting behind the mountains - aah it's magical!
But there's a specific spot and it seems not everybody knows it. Drive away from Killarney and probably a kilometer or so past the Torc Waterfall there should be a parking lot on the right.
Touring the Ring of Kerry
by lmizutani
Being one of the more popular sightseeing tours in the Kerry region, there are many tour buses that will drive you around. My tour included a stop at Waterville, the vacation home of Charlie Chaplin (something I didn't know), a sheep dog demonstration, Moll's Gap (for photo pics)....
We managed to tour on a nice day which made for very nice photos. I will upload one once I figure out how to scan a photo onto the internet.
the Lakes of Killarney
by globetrott
The Lakes of Killarney are another "Must see" for all tourists in Killarney. At different levels you will find several lakes and the most of them are connected by small rivers and waterfalls. All of the area is part of a National Park and a perfect place to go for a hike. You will find several tours beeing offered and boats will take you to the most scenic places of these lakes. A special place to go to during these tours is Innsifallen, it is a small island in Lough Leane (the largest of the lakes) with an interesting church-ruin !
You may spent a full day around these lakes and find lots of interesting places to explore !
Great Central Base
by Sagespot
"The City"
Killarney was a wonderful location to have as a central base for touring the southwestern regions of the Island.
The town claims to have been a tourist town since the mid-17th century. You'll always find tons of souvenir shops, but also a ton of great bars and local crafts. When you combine that with the scenery of the coastlines and National Forests - well, it's almost perfection itself.
"Orientation"
The center of town is the T-junction where New Street meets High and Main Streets. As it heads south, High becomes Main then swings around to the left into East Avenue Road where all the large hotels are... The national park is to the south, and the bus and train stations are to the east of the center.
We used Killarney as a base to tour the Ring of Kerry and surrounding countryside. I cannot recommend this highly enough. A simple day trip to the area is just not sufficient - take a few days at the very least to enjoy County Kerry.
