Killarney National Park
We found a very nice man renting horses for day trips along side of the road. We had been told by a jervy cart man that it was too late in the season for riding horses. I'm glad we didn't listen to him.

Expressway service 40A runs from Rosslare to Tralee, stopping at Killarney and Cork. Journey takes around 1h 35m.
There's a regular bus service from Cork to Killarney and back. Yes, the buseireann site is the one to search and there are several services a day.

This is the only Irish Abbey of this period with Tower structure. Also the Yew tree in the Cloister is a branch of the tree which was at the Abbey on Innisfallen Island. When the Franciscans built their Church in Killarney town the tree in that Cloister is a slip from the Abbey in Muckross. This Abbey contains the graves of four famous Kerry Poets.
Definitely spend some time strolling through the Killarney National Park if you're in the area. The sights are stunning! The very first part of the trail is way too touristy, and you need to watch out so as not to get overrun with horse-drawn jaunts that are everywhere. However, as soon as you reach the Torc waterfall, things change for the better, or should I say more natural.
One of the most beautiful places you'll see in Ireland. Be sure to really get into the park and away from the main paths. Climb the Torc mountain and take in the views from above, they're really something. Or walk the Kerry Way through the park to N70 and hitch a ride back to town.
The Ring of Kerry was the one place that everyone seemed to have on their must see list for Ireland, some people meander leisurely through the Ring spending multiple days here, others like me devise a way to drive the whole route in a day. It doesn't sound like a long drive from the actual mileage but driving in Ireland isn't quick, especially on the scenic routes so plan for at least a day to drive the Ring of Kerry.
Like us, most people make Killarney their base to drive the Ring of Kerry, we spent the night before we drove it in Killarney and made Kenmare on the other side of the ring our stopping point for the evening. In the morning we visited some of the sights around Killarney-Ross Castle, Ladies View, Torc Waterfall and Muckross House before doubling back and driving the Ring of Kerry counterclockwise as most of the guidebooks suggested in order to avoid the inevitable game of chicken we would have to play with the tour buses.
This is definitely a day where weather made a huge difference, we had gorgeous sunshine and great visibility, I don't know that it would be nearly as enjoyable on a rainy, foggy, overcast day.

A: "One-hour bus ride would probably be easiest as I don't think there is a train. Check http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1214926849-279k.pdf"
