Inisfalen Island
by healy_ger
If you look across the lake with Ross castle to your back you can seen Inisfalen island. Take a boat trip from the Castle to the Island. There are ruins of a 6th century monastery there. It's usually quiet, at most 50 people on the island at any given time. There are about 5 buildings to be seen there. It's also a really nice place to relax in the sun.
Ring of Kerry Tour
by mrdarius
In my opinion the best way to see the most of this beautiful area of Ireland in the shortest amount of time is via a Ring of Kerry tour. The tours cost around 20 euro and last approximately 5 hours. Make sure it includes stops at or affords views of Magillicuddy's Reeks, Killorglin, Sneem, Gap of Dunloe, and Ladie's View. Ladie's View was my favorite part.
If possible, try to meet with the driver before your tour as well. That's the greatest asset you will have on such a tour. A lousy guide will make for a lousy trip.
If I ever did this tour again, I would rent a car and just drive to the places that were more interesting on my own. Some of the roads are pretty narrow and covered with sheep though.
Carrantouhill - Irelands highest mountain
by healy_ger
Standing at 1034M (3414 Ft) Carrantouhill is Irelands highest mountain. There is a stunnig view of the surrounding landscape, you can see for miles & miles. It's about a 4 hour hike, be prepared for adverse weather conditions. Unfortunately, when I took the picture below the clouds began to move in. It gets very dangerous if you are not careful!
A Great Spot to Visit in the Winter
by RickinDutch
"Killarney - The Tourist Hub"
I've yet to visit Killarney in the summer, but I can imagine how crowded it gets. This is the main starting points for the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Penninsula. And Kinsale, a popular town for eating is just over the mountains to the south. Best time to visit is the winter - all the ammenities and none of the crowds.
Killarney is set in a beautiful valley and is a busy spot, even without the tourists. The lake district draws a lot of campers and hikers. The National Park has the Muckross House, Mucross Abbey, and the Torc waterfalls. Spectacular scenery and history all about.
